The Minelab Digger . . . . is this a sign of Minelab quality?

Rick,

According to the current dealer price list, the "Minelab Diging Tool" is still available as part number 8701-0019 with an MSRP of $59.95 and a MAP of $39.95. Kellyco has them for a bit less but the $40 the guy paid seems to be in-line with Minelab's pricing.

A few $$ more gets a tool that lasts . . . . . my father was a tool & die maker and buying quality tools was something he always preached.

There are probably other high-quality diggers - how about everyone listing what they use in this message

I use a Lesch Ground Shark for recovering deeper targets and the small Lesche Hand digger for shallow targets or expanding the hole when necessary. Excellent quality digging tools IMO. I did keep the freebie digger that I got from Kellyco to use as a back-up. If I had paid 40 bucks for it, I wouldn't be too happy.

I agree quality tools is a must and when it comes to diggers the Lesche or the Preditor digging tools are the best I have used in my 36 years of detecting. For park or school grounds or any place with nice lawns it is a must for me and used the relic shovels in fields where it is made for. Some of these do work good for digging plugs and make some nice plugs too, but to carry one in a park or school is asking to be told to leave even though the plugs look good.

Thanks Andy for bringing it to my attention on the Minelab digger.

several years ago. I gave it to my aunt who was detecting with us in Danville, VA in the heavy clay and bent it just like in the picture. My original Lesche is still perfect :)

Just get the Lesche knife for about the same money & forget about it.---You're then "good to go" for years!----We've bent just about every digger we've ever bought until we got the Lesche-and my wife can't even bend that one!!---Best digger there is IMO.---We've had a couple of those Kellyco Gator Digger things & I had to straighten the blades on them after about every hunt.-----Del

Mine bent the first night out with the new E-trac. You can straighten it but it will just bend again. Free is only good if it does a job. I would have rather received nothing than receive a piece of junk and have it bend then have to wait for the Predator to arrive in the mail a week later to have a digger. When I bought my second E-trac I was allowed to substitute another digger for the free Minelab one. If yours has not bent then you are not digging any holes. The ground was wet and soft the night I bent mine. I now have two predators and they work as advertised. Why would you sell the best detector know to man with the worst excuse for a digger known to man? Just did not make sense to me?

HH,

Dave

what dealer sold it to you for $40? I think it says more about the dealer than the quality of the digger. My dealer gave me one - I've never used it, but keep it as a back up for a guest. I've never expected much from it - I guess if you had done a little more research or if your dealer had been more of a straight shooter he would have recommended the Lesche for your money - excellent tool - I've had mine for years now. If you'd bought your machine from my dealer you would have gotten a free Lesche with the machine

Hey Guys
Found your post by chance, your crap China made digger looks for all the world the same shape as an Australian Boomerang, bet if you throw that bugger away it will come back to you, by the way if the sheath is made in China take care, theres only one Lesche digger thats for sure,

Mine was a feebie. That said the Preditor Raptor can't be beat. It does not look like a knife "try that in the Bronx parks" I also use a Pred Samson "no wider than the Raptor" it has a long handle. Spend the money on good and clean digging tools guys. The ground, people and body will thank you for it.

I have not tried the Minelab digger that came with my ET. I have two Lesche hand tools and both have given good service. I replaced the Predator with a Ground Shark w/ball end and couldn't be happier with it.

I gave the Predator to someone I was hunting with who said they could weld it for me and then I never saw him again...

I'm sure they do sell them but my dealer threw one in when I bought my E-TRAC. It look's about like a Lesche or Predator tool to me but since i've not used it I don't know. I wouldn't try to use any of them as a pry bar.
