The Excalibur

I love my exallibur ,and I also get green crud on my battery terminals ,however I detect in fresh water only . Someone said its because of salt water . How can I prevent this ????

Salt water corrodes more quickly, but fresh will corrode too. Use conductive grease on the contact points.

You need to change the rubber gasket or ensure one is there. Very simple to clean.... i use corrosive X and a Q-tip. Keep a little silicone grease on that rubber gasket as well. If you are getting corrosion.... it may well affect performance.... kind of like only half a 220 AC working. Tighten the battery cap with just 2 fingers to keep them from cracking..... especially when on the charger because they get warm and expand. BAD connection because of corrosion will also heat them up more as it attempts to charge the battery.

I don't post much but thought i'd pass along my solution to a cheap hipmount. Excals are great no doubt about it but heavy.Needed hip mount,so i used a free gardening knee pad, it's made of tough, tough water proof foam material. which just so happens is the right thickness. easy to cut to shape and allows the battery to flex in all directions. its very comfortable and quick to make up. cost was squat for both pad and belt which i got at garage sale for 25 cents. Even buying the belt and pad is cheap at retail. I think thats about as cheap as i can get to do a hipmount.

Say hello to Excalibur Sword EX 95.

I have a few questions. The Excalibur Sword manual says to use a 240V charger for the NiCad battery pack. I haven't received the exact charger for the Sword yet but I do have the Minelab NiCad charger Model 119 input 110v AC 60 Hz, Output 14.3V DC 60 ma which works on my Excal 800. I'm probably paranoid but I'll wait for a response from somebody smarter than me.
I checked the pod with a volt meter and it's at 0.0 volts.

Also small cracks in the battery pod which I knew about before I purchased it.

OBN & Ron what do you think?

Decals are perfect, shaft has been replaced, coil cable looks perfect.

I'm going to send a pic to Gary Storm at Detector Pro and ask him if this brings back memories.

Thanks for any info.

I do garage sales lloking for md's also but have net found any yet

Found this old thread. I'm planning to get this old sword working again and many thanks to OBN for the end caps for the pinpoint mod.
A couple of corrections - yes it did originally have the sword decal.
And per Minelab the transformer coils in the original headphones were not being used to step up the audio.
They were there to limit audio/voltage spikes, which is exactly what the capacitor/resistor combo does nowadays.
Since this post was made the original pod tube grew more cracks. Just sitting in storage.
I will have to either replace the pod of glass over the little "windows" that I had originally made.
And, since one of the cracks goes to the end of the pod, it will have to be sealed with Methylene Chloride - may or may not work.
Two features that helped the performance was one, adding the flat along where the knobs run. This made a platform to support an additional Oring compressed under each knob - a sand seal.
Second was the bar style knob guard- really nice compared to the Anderson guard which is a pain (for me).
Hopefully a new pod will appear soon or else a new round of repairs will begin. It's diving days are over for sure.

Soak all parts in Salt-X it will kill corrossion on contact and it leaves a invisible barrier when it dries.

I've been using the excaliber for six years what setting does everyone use to beach hunt salt water lately my machine has been making different sounds and it's driving me crazy. Any help would be great. Has anyone run into this problem
