The Cibola Showdown: Test results initiated by JB's response on the "Cibola vs. CZ-5" post

when I read about you salt water beach hunters getting the depths you do. :rage: Ain't never gonna happen on Great Lakes beaches!

That is a subject that will be debated forever on the forums. I don't ascribe to the halo theory personally except for rusty iron and perhaps Bill's DEEP stinky zinc's.

Here's an analogy; we all know that it takes high gain high freq machines to see small gold and that hobby machines see small chains as single links and because of that have poor sensitivity to them. Based on that, how large of an effect can those little sulfides, ions and free radicals(poor humor attempt) have on sensitivity??? Perhaps it could actually be measurable on say an IH that has lain in moist ground for 100 years? Don't know for sure but I doubt it. Gold alloyed with silver or copper, 90% silver coins... naaa

I think it's just "coin karma",Any of you see the movie "The Manitou"?Guess it came out about 15-20 yrs ago.Had a storyline about how everything around us,living or not, tables, chairs, etc.,had a "energy force" within it that could be good or evil. That's what causes the "halo effect".IF THE COIN REALLY WANTS YOU TO FIND IT,YA WILL.HH

I feel your pain, and I don't have a detector yet.Tell ya what, when I get mine, and I hunt the Mississippi River here,I'll "plant"pennies, and sprinkle them with salt. Then if ya get near St. Louis in 10-15 yrs,you can dig 'em out.Be just like the beach.HH

The kick butt metal detector was in National Treasure! That was a detector and a geiger counter all in one, and it could find ships under the artic ice sheet!!!:surprised:

Nah,who would buy into such a silly idea as that.Bet your making it all up!LMAO

It didnt get the hype of Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it had the same thrills and goofiness. If it only had Harrison Ford rather than Nicholas Cage, it might of been even better!

Nah,I'm one of the Illegal Aliens on the Illinois side,LOL Cubs fan too for all the good that does me.I live in Granite City,Illinois, about 5 miles as the crow flies from St. Louis.

in the Bethalto area for about 10 years. Moved back out west in '96, but go back and visit every couple of years or so. Used to go ice skating in GC, and drive through on my way to work about every day.

For some reason compacting it will give a stronger signal, not sure why but it works that way for me.
As far as test plots go, they have their uses but in field results are usually different so always bear that in mind.
I dont know about the cibola but the Quatro should get alot better depth in actual field hunting. The ID of the Quatro should be pretty good also helping in yards or parks.
I recently bought another Tejon, the last one I had I only used it on the ocean beaches.
I will see this winter how it stacks up against my Sov XS in woods hunting. I know on the beach I got some awfully deep targets with it :), just like my sov.

GT, where are you doing your tests at, what state?

Hi Tom,

I just spent the last hour explaining how to scientifically prove or debunk the "matrix" effect. I was getting ready to post the instructions when my internet connection got interrupted and I lot the entire post. :rage:

Too bad I don't have another hour to rewrite it. But the "matrix" effect can be tested scientifically during one afternoon. I guess I'll have to follow up on this later. Got to go back to work now.

See ya' later,
Gus

Hi Niel,

I live on five acres and I'm doing the tests out near my woods. Most the soil around here is glacial till. I live about 12 miles inland from the Puget Sound about an hour north of Seattle.

I agree that test plots will give different results than field testing. Soil and conditions can vary in thousands of ways. I do believe testing in plots still give valuable information that hints of how the detector will do in the field test as long as you do the right tests.
