[size=medium]I decided to go out with my Silver

It is .308 Winchester. Its military designation is 7.62 X 51 NATO. It is used in the M-14, M1A, M 60 machine gun etc. Yours is from Lake City, 1971. HH Joe

The Silver Series machines are winners - Ive had them on and off for years. They are sensitive enough, easy to operate and good stuff sounds like good stuff. You cant go wrong with them.

Joe is right on with the cartridge ID. Lake City is a US arsenal where they make ammunition and '71 indicates year of manufacture. The little circle with a cross indicates NATO contract.

Bullets are everywhere and you will soon find that they are nothing to be surprised at. I have found live ammo at churches, schools, beaches parks - you name it. I have a vast collection of shotshell bases and spent cartridge cases ranging from the early 1800's through today.
Ditto fired bullets of every size and caliber.

Last weekend I found several unfired 9MM rounds in the lake where I was hunting. I didnt find the gun, but my friend found one once.
