I see it with all the big guys on YouTube you name it I’ve commented you should leave a hinge they dig a complete circle. Unbelievable.Ive been binging on youtube park metal detecting vids and it seems that nearly everyone digs enormous removable plugs. Its like someone dragging the needle across the record.

I totally agree with this. What I do not understand is why instead of just digging rite off the get go why do they not run their pin pointer across the area where the target is to see if the target is close to the surface instead of digging these humongous holes and then realize their target is rite at the top of the plug where most good pin pointers would have found or seen the target they were retrieving but no everyone of them dig these massive holes
I see that in my area and that’s what gets sites put off limits!!Ive been binging on youtube park metal detecting vids and it seems that nearly everyone digs enormous removable plugs. Its like someone dragging the needle across the record.

Depends what you use and the soil your digging. The lesche hand trowel/shovel is actually better than most metal detecting shovels. Most grass roots are only as long as the blade of grass.Right now I use the Phoenix shovel and cut plugs. The plugs are mostly 4~5" in diameter and once replaced one can hardly see where the plug was dug. Question is; does the plug kill the grass; my personal observation is that it's less of a grass killer than those dug with a hand trowel/shovel.
I agree DigDog,The lesche tool with its very sharp serrated edge cuts through grass like butter. They are available in left or right handed serrated blades as well.
Little more expensive but if you are willing to pay hundreds extra for a detector to make life easier and more convenient why skimp out an extra $20 on a good digging tool which is the hard physical part and save effort and time cutting and digging.
There is a kid on youtube in Florida called “Treasure outdoors” if not at the beach he uses one and cuts a perfect plug with a hinge in like three seconds literally. Flips the plug up uses his pinpointer then just flops the plug back down with the hinge like it was never cut.
He has one of the best techniques ive seen and is the same exact soil i dig.
Watch his park digs and even the beach ones with a sand scoop. He makes it look so easy but he is also probably 30 years younger than me lol
Not so sure its just about the social media and money as much as nowadays alot of people just don’t have the same RESPECT for other people or things. The TikTok guys are even worse...
Huge holes.
Not even a square or circle cut.
At a public park out in the open.
Kick the dirt back, one stomp.
Don't even pin point the target just dig a whole, miss, open the sides, miss more till its a complete mess.
I swear they are only in it for the social media money. More and more are popping up and none of them seem.to have any techniques. Just run your mouth the entire video and dig everything.
