The ACe 250 and the Silver uMax

I do not like the ACE 250, but I have the hugest respect for Garrett as a manufacturer.

So telling one is better of the other is BS and nonsense. You could do that between a 150 and a 250, cause they run the same freq.

You could do that between a silver umax and a Laser rapier, they have same frequencies.

The ace 250 and the SS Umax are DIFFERENT, so i would say that each is good in its part of the game.

The Silver definitely has an edge over the 250 as far as the small jewelry is concerned, not because it is better, but because it is different.

That is, I mean, an answer to the initial question.

Yea, I switched to another dealer out in Wisconsin. I'll order it from him this next week.
Also picked up a 10x14DD for my ACe 250. The thing is though there are not many coils
for the Ace. There ARE for the silver. I'll still hold on to the Ace. With my MXT in for
repairs the Ace is my back up.

I do wonder though if I'm still going to hit just as many pull tabs with the Silver as I do
with the ace?

True silver does hit more pull tabs than the Ace. For coins the Ace is nicer because you can zero out pennys if you want and still hit everything else. . For jewlry not sure yet got to use the silver a bit more to tell. But the Ace is a good machine. The Silver is decent but id machines make detecting so much easier

Well when it comes down to it it's all about preference and i've owned alot of machines in the last 2 years from garrett to bounty hunter to discovery to whites to teknetics and alot of tesoro's but when it comes down to it Tesoro' s machines have found me more stuff than any others combined and the models are the golden umax and silver the ones i would like to try next are the true fisher equipment or the 1200 series like a 1236x2 or a 1270 but i'm not in a rush for them though just bought a brand new deleon and that has been finding me alot of first's

I've used the 1236x2 and I don't think you'd be gaining anything over your Umax machines, but the 1236 is a very good / capable machine. The silver Umax is better balanced and I believe it discriminates better too.

I've been curious about the 1270, but doubt I'll ever try one.....I think it has GB in all metal mode only...I really liked Fisher.....especially the CZ series....last time I bought one it was $1000 with a lifetime warranty.... I'm not sure its the same company it used to be (just based on what I've read) and if I had the $ I'd be afraid to invest it in a Fisher now. <---just my opinion, I also read they're making some nice TIDs etc...really makes me want to try one....but again.....I'm a die hard Tesoro fan now.

yeah i'm not impressed with anything that first texas has put out just don't like the electronics the way they work and that it seems cheaply made

i have a question, im planning on going to a gold claim with a small creek . I guess people have found small nuggets while panning in this area. I only have the silver umax do you guys think i can detect something with it and what setting do you recommend.

it would be right on the surface for the most part if its there and cut your disc way back into iron range for smaller stuff, gold reads funny than other stuff for some reason ring sized stuff will read into the tab zone

Your best shot would be in all metal with the 4" coil, if possible. The a/m mode is not a true a/m mode, but should be close enough to find a nugget.

I'm sure you could have a bit of fun giving it a try... why not !
Folks here and there have probably found nuggets with the Silver uMax.

The Tesoro gold machine, Lobo Super Track , is far different than a Silver uMax. That might tell you something....

All of us will be very interested in how you do !
Pls post pics of your adventure.

Good luck

Dan, that's a common complaint from new detectorists. The Ace also does that. It's also a reason for the popularity of detectors like the Silver. Most have to get used to the idea that the ID simply puts the target into a CATEGORY and is only a tool-just like getting used to the "sounds" of a detector like the Silver.

And the more expensive the machine, the more we expect from it. My White's DFX has 191 segments in it's ID. When I get a silver dime it is usually 81, when it is clad it is 79. It is almost funny how mad I get when it reads "silver dime" at 6 inches and it turns out to be clad!

I still like using my White's PRL "industrial metal detector" occasionally, because I find it really can sharpen my metal detecting listening skills.
