the 6X8 SEF not really doing it for me..

gunwolf

Well-known member
since getting it a month ago I have used it on several hunts ...alone and with a hunting partner. I noticed I wasn't getting hardly anything compared to my buddy who was using his ATpro, finally he was calling me over on good solid 4-6" signals.. the 6X8 was barely hitting... I am using Goes4evers settings, multi tone in auto +3.. I have even tried running manual 26-29 with no difference. so today I took the 6X8 to the local park, I grid searched a 10x10 area nice and slow, I marked a few targets then switched to TTF and rechecked... I hit the same marked targets. I dug a clad quarter at 3" and two clad dimes at about the same depth... I then switched to my stock coil and using the same program in multi tone auto+3 I went over the area again... I pulled a buffalo, two Jefferson nickels, and 3 wheats none deeper than 4" ... how could the stock coil find them so easily, or did the 6X8 not see them like I have been noticing? I watched just about every video out there and also read numerous posts about using the 6X8 SEF... it just isn't working for me and I'm about to sell it. thoughts?

Do U have the sunray x-5? It is amazing. I also like the Sharpshooter NEL coil. I traded my 6x8 sef for a sharpshooter.

Something isn't right with your coil. I can see things at 8" with my 6x8.

I agree with Tenspeed, I saw no depth loss, or very little with the 6 x 8 SEF. It worked great for me.

Ditto. I never take My 6x8 off anymore. Plus its lighter to swing than the stock coil.

this is why I bought it.. but I don't understand how I can put it on and hit an area nice and slow... and get some iffy signals, switch to the stock coil and the signals ring out... all while not changing anything except the coil? I thought I was doing something wrong... maybe now I'm headed toward believing it may be a bad coil? and yes I purchased it BN. I would love to get the separation you all talk about.. but if it is missing 4" targets somethings wrong. thanks for all your replies.

Boy oh boy...... the 6x8 SEF has fantastic depth and signal. Gunwolf might just have gotten of hold of a bad coil, because 9 out of 10 guys that have them, use these with great success ! Hope you can get it fixed or replace it . Best of luck.

You must have bad coil or you need to go to manual sensitivity and crank up.6x8 does not do so good in auto sensitivity you need to run that coil hot.

Did you try a simple air test on it? How does that do?

Tried the air test Rich.. works fine... I stopped today on the way home and gave it one more chance.. I put on the 6x8 SEF and I grid searched an area I know still has coins... about a 30ft by 10 ft strip... pulled one clad quarter at 4 "... put the stock coil on and ran it over the same grid the same way and found 2 dimes , a memorial and 3 wheats the 6x8 missed. nothing deeper than 6"... maybe this coil just isn't for me.. I'm done with it...

I swear my 6x8 will bang on a coin as deep as my 11" pro coil on my Safari! Something is amiss with the coil.

probably.. but at this point I'm just gonna eat it.. I can't sell it if it's bad, but I am done using it. don't know if it's a Bum coil or just me at this point.. but I can't waist my hunting time finding out... I gotta just go with the stock coil for now.. it's finding me all kinds of goodies! don't know how much I missed that month I had the 6X8 on..????

Surely someone is close to you with the same coil that you could compare each other's coils across machines to tell quickly if something is wrong.

not too many e-trac users here... my friends that had e-tracs upgraded to the CTX...

A guy REALLY NEEDS a small coil in his arsenal. I had the 6x8 but only used it twice because I fell in love with the 6" eq2. I noticed no problems with the 6x8 and it definitely has a following so I'd most likely guess yours is defective? I'd highly recommend trying the 6" eq2.....7" dimes no problem with the occasional 8" wheat/dime and I've dug bigger coins to 9" with the little coil........... the 6" eq2 also has a smooth bottom so it doesn't get hung up on brush which is a nice little plus.......

the 6x8 is all I use anymore. I really cannot remember the last time I had my stock coil on! I have dug MANY indians and dimes at 8-9" and I use auto +3 95% of the time. I'd say you got a bad coil.

I also use the 6 x 8 and it's a great little coil. Great separation and depth and also much lighter than the stock coil. I usually run mine in manual at about 26 or 27 to try and squeeze all the depth I can but will run in Auto plus 3 if it's trashy or tougher ground. Good luck

There has to be something wrong with your coil with the kind of depths you are reporting on it.----I have that coil and get very good depth (and separation capability) with it.-------If you bought it new from Kellyco--let them know the situation and this post/thread.-----Chances are they will replace it for you.------I find both the 6X8 & 10X12 SEF coils to be excellent coils (and I've had several of them over the years).-----If it's still under warranty, you can probably get it replaced--worth checking on.---------Del
