Testing the waters with this one

Hi Ron.Not sure what your asking.Ive run the V for almost a year and have used the deep silver program a few times. This program runs mixed mode (discrimination & all metal) and can be tricky to interpret. The all metal is going to sound off on all metal targets, while the discrimination mode is set to +65-+94 (in the stock program anyway). This program is somewhat of a balancing act so to speak, because depending on the ground you hunt in,if all metal is reading deeper than your discrimination you may get the all metal signal with no discrimination sound off and vice versa. The few times I ran the program I was fooled by rusty nails more often than not.I have more experience running the 3 freq. best data for silver and have found on deeper silver the VDI can vary considerably when sweeping over a suspected target, but will for the most part stay up in the 80s VDI range. It seems, usually when I get a good repeatable signal, sweeping side to side over a suspected target,it will seem like a solid silver signal. Then when I go to pinpoint,if the pinpoint is strongest off to the side considerably of the suspected target,it seems more often than not its been a rusty nail.Has anyone else found this to be the case?

Go to audio in the expert menu and turn off mixed mode, but remember in the deep silver program, the filter and recovery delay in the stock form are set towards a slow swing.

Hi I am also really new , I am picking up my V3I on Friday, I am interested in running all metal mode as I am interested in seeing all but I was under the impression, that the analyzer would be able to tell me if I was looking at a rusty nail or a gold ring, what I am saying I do not mind the beeping on every piece of metal I run across, I just want to know if it is worth digging, if I sound silly that's because I am new, I am sure with some experience I will not want this, but for now I just want to see how good the analysis is on every piece of metal I come across and have the machine let me decide if I want to dig it based on its analysis.

Tazman,if you havent run mixed mode before, the all metal audio is based off the threshold (best way I can describe it),it doesnt beep but can be set to give an increase in tone(VCO).The discrimination mode is the mode that will give beeps or tone ID.If your new to detecting and havent run mixed mode (all metal and discrimination combined),I personally would advise against it.For a person just starting out,it is too easy to get overwhelmed and frustrated running mixed mode (its a lot of sound and information to digest). If you want to hear every target in the ground just completely open up the discrimination channel to accept everything.I think youll find that you dont really want to do this without assigning zero (silent) tones to at least a certain VDI range. It would probably be best to assign a silent tone to at least -1 to -94 and probably +95.By running mixed mode the all metal channel will create sound on every target in the ground and does not have a range that can be discriminated out.

I dont use the analyze function your talking of too much. The sound,VDI,size and spectragraph are the main inputs I base my decisions off of.

I don't use any of the analyze screens myself. I think the new stereo mixed mode could be a keeper for you. [attachment 159926 Reading.gif] Rob

Hi Taz.

I'm sure you will soon learn the language of the Vi. The 'new' additions should be an added bonus to anyone who cares to interpret their significance.

I for one will be getting the upgrades ASAP,

Let us know how you get on with it, for it will be several weeks before we can share some real results and observations.
