tesoro vs whites spectra v3i

I love my Whites V3i, but with that said I wouldn't ever think somebody tector was inferior or talk it down. There are many types, sizes and names of metal detectors. Some light some heavy, some find gold better and some find silver better. I always have and always will feel its the person using the machine that makes the machine better! I apologize for that arrogant Whites owner. Its fun its exercise its being in the woods and fresh air. Lets go metal detecting.

Happy Hunting

Simple means more fun!

Enjoy it while you can.

20 years ago I used to feel the same way. I used to make fun of the people who used those fancy screens and stuff. Then in 1991 all that changed. I bought a White's Eagle Spectrum and for the first time understood why people used these fancy machines. Been using them ever since and never looked back.

I don't understand why people bash detectors they've never used, it makes no sense. whats the point of that? My minelabs are heavy but they sure suit most of my hunting needs and its taken a lot of sampling to figure that out.

I have owed 5 plus Tesoro's and have enjoyed everyone of them. I just recently bought a Minelab Safari and I am really liking this one also. I just love to detect. Stick one in my hand and I am happy. If a person really is so intent on not missing a good target then dig them all. When using my Tesoro's I know that pull tab and gold go together. And its the same with the minelab. If it's a solid signal I am digging.

I found the bracelet in my avatar after the area was gone over with a v3i

All my equipment is now paid off 100%

I still see YouTube videos of high end machines digging pull tabs as well

I don't dig relics or deep silver, just looking for clad and jewelry

Anyone can have a bad attitude , I was just surprised by the don't even bother looking because you don't have a top of the line machine

I didn't bash there machine , I just don't need one and have better places to put $2500

I've never "used" a Volkswagen either but I can still tell you I'd much rather drive my mustang.

If you think I was bashing anyones detector you don't know the meaning of bashing LOL.

I was simple stating a fact. 20 years ago I was a beep-n-dig-it-all type hunter. I bought my first VDI machine and wondered why I ever choose to drive a Volkswagen. I know exactly what the beep-n-diggers are thinking when they hear about the latest greatest high tech gadget detector. I just happen to no longer get enjoyment out of spending hours on end digging crap hoping for a few keepers. My time is very limited, maybe an hour at most, so that hour has to count. And I don't count going home with a pouch full of foil as enjoyment anymore. Give me the very best VDI and tone ID so the only time I bend over is to recover a keeper. To each their own... For me the idea of having fun has changed. If you still enjoy what you're doing then great! I'm just saying enjoy it while you can because like it or not your time will come as well.

In the end it is all about having fun. Who am I to tell you how to have fun? I'm just saying my concept of fun has changed and I'm quite sure yours will as well over time. Till then knock yourself out. it wiull give you great stories to tell later in life LOL.

For clad and jewelry hunting, the Compadre is the perfect machine Pete.

Update:

It's been less than a year and I'm happy to say I have found enough to pay for my Tesoro over three times, last gold find was a super fine gold chain!

And a white gold ring .

Would I like a fancy machine sure.........do I need one Not so far.

If you're looking for serious depth, forget about the Compadre. But what would you expect? It's a lower gain detector with a 5" coil.

If you're detecting in really heavy iron, that little Compadre will pleasantly surprise you. And more than hold its own with most high-end detectors in that scenario.

I have the 8" model and for me the depth is too much sometimes , I'm not hunting silver or relics. Just clad and jewelry

Shure works on our steel core coins

A couple weeks ago I ran into a guy on the beach that was swinging a Minelab Safari. I dont know how many times he told me what a superior machine he had when compared to the machine I was using. I was using my Minelab Sovereign GT. I did not think it was necessary to tell him that I thought that he was full of crap and after watching him detect for a while I wondered how he ever found anything. His swing was a beautiful arc.

The neat thing about this hobby is that there are a variety of machines and tools that one can select from and to each his own.

I am currently considering adding a Compadre to my arsenal so that I can get in closer to all those metal posts that are holding up swings etc in play grounds. You can detect areas like that while I can not. Each machine has its positives and negatives.

Enjoy your machine and the hobby and to heck with the nay sayers.

Unless you like "high tech" I would not waste the money. $1500 is
a lot of money to spend on a machine. Plenty of lower priced machines will
do you well in the field. NOW then, if you HAVE the extra money and just
like the newer gadgets, then fine. I love Whites machines, but I also like
Garretts as well. They both make quality machines and have great customer
swervice. I upgraded to the Ace 350 and have found lots of great finds with
it.
Good luck

What I really find so interesting about this thread and looking at other forums here is how many people have gone from high dollar to low dollar detectors. Not saying its good or bad. Just interesting.

And vice-versa........ Just went with a high end machine after reading the best advice I'd ever read on these forums "Just look at the finds posted by the users of X brand machine and that'll give you the best idea of what X brand excels at". I did just that and VERY glad that I took his advice........digging less and silver count is way up

Personally I see it the other way. I see more people going from low end to high end.

For most the progression is the same. I found most of my best stuff with a simple cheap detector, but then I had the luxury of being the first to hunt many many good sites. Location and timing has a lot to do with success. In the right place a $100 detector can produce many a good finds just as in the wrong place even a $2,500 detector will find you nothing. Does that make the $100 detector a better choice than the $2,500? Not at all, it just means location is far more important that the detector.

After 20 years with my lower end machines all my sites had pretty much dried up. You may think you'll never run out of places to hunt, but believe me after 20 years in an area like mine you do. It took moving up to a high end machine to make most of these sites worth hunting again. Now after 10 years with many high end machines, and many many more keepers, most my sites have dried up again. Now I spend most my hunting time in leisure rather than the aggressive hunter I used to be. For this I am back to my simple cheaper detectors. I've come full circle but make no mistake I still keep a high end machine around because I know it has its place still.

Yes I agree 100%. Location is so important and each machine has its place,I will move up to a "better" machine some day. Just need to find one that sees our steel coins and jewelry as I don't hunt for silver or relics

I totally agree seeing people going from low end to end. That is what I would expect to see.

I never thought I would see people go in the opposite direction, but it happens.

I also went from a very high end detector back to simple. One tone and no meter. The kind of hunting I do, the high end just was not for me. I really did not need all them bells and whistles and all the music it played. KEN. Ind
