Tesoro Tiger Shark Tips

Howdy Panther

It sounds like you are getting on with your Tiger Shark, good deal! To find the gold goodies you have to run at low disc. I usually run it about 3 to 4 on the dial, you may miss some tinsel fine gold chains this way, but this setting nails small gold rings and gives iron a (lower) sounding Duck Quack tone.( good targets give a higher pitched quack). It's all in the sounds of the Tiger Shark.

Then find a 24 inch zip tie and thread it thru the pole mount of the control box and around the clamps of the face plate to secure the clamps shut. I almost flooded my Tiger by catching the clamp on a pocket of my swim trunks. I mount the control box under the arm rest just like you do. HH

Thanks Randy.

I have actually been running it with the disc at about 2 to 3. In some of the areas heavily littered with iron I have bumped it up to 5. I see what you mean about the iron sounds. Just like my Cibola, you can really tell what you have by the sounds. I started out digging nearly every sound just to learn what everything sounded like.

Have you ever tried the 10" coil? This thing is strange with depth. One thing gives a solid hit and I dig down quite a ways to get it. Other times I get just a faint repeatable sound and I dig a quarter just a few inches down.

Hi Panther

Quarters hit hard on my Tiger, maybe your quarter was on edge? I have the stock 8" coil and it meets all my needs, I think that the 10" coil would mask too much. Just my honest opinion. Gold rings hit hard too! I can't tell the difference between the sound of a dime or gold ring, pulltabs sound a little harsher, but dig them anyway. Rusty beer bottlecaps sound off with a duller sound, I can call them, but dig them to get em outa the way if they are'nt too many of them. Clicking sounds are small bobbypins, small nails etc..

Does anyone know:

As far as coils go for the Tiger Shark. Are there still only Concentric coils available, or can either a stock or aftermarket DD('s) be had for it??

Also since it has Bandito circuitry, can the Bandito(uMax) coils be made to work on it? Thank you!

The only coils made for the Tiger Shark are the three that Tesoro carries. They are tuned specifically for the Tiger. It might have some of the Bandito DNA but still a different machine. I'd contact Tesoro and see if one can me modified to work.

That is all I think about now when using my Shark - Duck Quacks!!!!LOL. I never thought of it that way, but this thing does sound like a duck.

Some great tips here. Just bought a TS this winter and will certainly refer to this thread when I can get out to use it. Thanks.

Once you set it up and get it ground balanced you're good to go unless you travel to different rivers & lakes , then you'll need to ground balance it. I hunted mainly one lake here with the Tiger Shark and worried about Ground balancing the first 2-3 times I used it but it never was out of Balance since The areas I hunted were basically the same lake and our soil here is good too. So I basically set it up and never really had to crack it open much unless I had to change batteries , then I would check the GB and re lube the o-ring and seal it back up. The Tiger Shark is great at sniffing out jewelry & fine /small earrings & chains.... I wish you luck! :detecting:

I am really getting the hang of this Tiger Shark. It is a fun machine to use. I found my first ring (a nice silver one) this weekend in the river in front of my house. No gold yet, but it is coming. I love the heavier weight as it is very easy to keep the coil on the sandy bottom.

The thing I have had to get used to is the faint signals. Any repeatable small blip should be dug. I give it one scoop and if the signal gets stronger I keep on digging. Many times I can even use my foot to push a little sand off the surface and check and see if the signal gets stronger. Still getting used to scooping when I can't see the bottom. I am building me a nice heavy duty scoop as my small gauge one is not quite good enough.

The thing I don't get is how to ground balance in the water. I hear people say they balance it in the water, but everytime I try to do that it goes negative no matter how much I turn it. Doesn't seem to be a problem, as I balance it in the wet sand on the shore and it seems to do fine.

Anyway, really liking this machine.:beers:

There's a detector shop in Florida that sells some very nice stainless scoops that are perforated, I had one and it served me very well. it had a long handle and wasn't heavy at all. I just lines the inside with a finer mesh screen to keep the small stuff from sifting through because the scoop had 1/2" perforations. it was heavy duty though and never failed me. The name of the shop eludes me right now but I'll try to find a website and post the link for you. It was just right for getting out in neck deep water where the teens and adults swim. that's where all the rings and other jewelry were found. then in the shallower water where an adult can sit with the water line up about mid chest .... that's where adults sit and play with the kiddos and sometimes lose jewelry due to the kids knocking it off.

Thanks Jay.

My brother in law welds and has just finished me a scoop I designed. I did it very similar to the Sunspot Stealth. That should dig through these tough shells that keep bending my other scoop.
