Tesoro SandShark ?

I like my Sand Shark but the Whites Dual Field seems to be more popular around here. I've never tried a dual field so I can't comment on it. Has anybody tried both machines so they can give a heads up comparison?

You are comparing apples to oranges. The Dual Field is a PI unit and has completely different technology than a VLF unit. One has to forget everything about a VLF, including pinpointing, to learn how to use a PI detector. Many cannot ever make the adjustment.

I like my Sandshark. It is a PI, so no discrimnination. But on a beach I dig everything anyway. It is very sensitive (mercury dimes at about 8-9 inches). You can adjust the frequency (pitch?) which helps for my hearing. It is light weight. No issues with falsing on highly mineralized beaches or salt water. It is water proof. I have yet to try much underwater detecting, but I do get into the surf about knee high. I have had good luck detecting over gravels/cobbles, beaches above and below the water line and even parks. It is very easy to use, has a lifetime warranty, at least 16-18 hours on batteries, and the price is great. I think I paid around $550.00. Will buy the clean sweep coil when it is available. I really like that coil on my LST. My buddy uses an MXT and he always found more compared to my LST on the beaches, Now I find way more.

So I guess we are back to square one.

Has anybody had a chance to compare the DF with the Sand Shark. I think the DF is deeper just based on the holes I see dug out at the beach. But I use an eight in coil so that is not really a fair comparison.

I can't imagine swinging the DF's coil all day long without the aid of a "Swing Thingy". So that brings up another question. How many of you DF guys use a "Swing Thingy"? And has anybody tried the "Swing Thingy" and decided it wasn't for them?

I have a SS and I like it a lot. It is light to carry and can be configured in different ways. It has the two search modes to chose from, and the audio frequency is adjustable. Personally I'm looking to upgrade to the 10 1/2" round coil when I can, but the stock coil goes pretty deep and is a breeze to pinpoint with.

I don't own a duel field, but I did take some small gold to try with a demo model DF at Bill Jackson's. It didn't seem to be any better at finding the small gold in my sample kit than the SS, but I think that's the story for most PI's.

I like the Sandshark that I picked up used. It's the only PI detector I've used. I was considering a PI and looking at options when this Sandshark became available at a very good price. Had to jump on it.

I have both the 8 inch and 10.5 inch round coils and have been using just the 10.5. Biggest issue I've had with the bigger coil is it getting flipped up by wave action. I need to make a bracket to hold it.

Sandshark balances very well. For me it is a swing all day detector with the box mounted up under the upper shaft; just below and behind the arm cuff.

I picked up the cleansweep coil for the Sandshark this winter and hope to try that coil out in about two weeks. Guess I was lucky to find a coil at this particular time.

Sandshark gets better battery life than the manual says. I'm around 16 hours with the current set of batteries and still at 4 beeps on the battery test (6 or 7 beeps is new battery, manual says replace at one or no beep). This is hunting at the preset pulse width.

Simple to use, and it works.
Cheers,
tvr

The one advantage to the Tesoro water machines is the capability to switch coils. Both on the VLF and the PI units.
