Tesoro Put The Super Seven Coil Back Into Production

Back in 1998 or 1999 there was a lot of mis-information being posted on the forums and conveyed by Troy about the Shadow X2. Things like the X2 having military spec components, reverse wound coils, unbelievable depth claims and more. I spoke with Jack Gifford about the claims on the telephone and he said that other than the coin check feature, color and coil the X2 was the same as a Silver Sabre II µMax. He said the transmit windings in the 7 inch Tesoro concentric coil were set in from the outside of the coil, which actually made it closer to being a 6 inch coil than a 7 inch. The transmit windings in the Super 7 coil were positioned as close to the outside of the coil housing as possible, which resulted in the the transmit windings being larger in diameter. Having larger diameter transmit windings added some depth over the Tesoro 7 inch coil, hence the "Super 7" designation. Whether that's 100 percent accurate or not I have no idea, but Troy told me basically the same thing after I bought a Shadow X5 so I assume it is.

Regardless of what I was told is true or not, I do like the Super 7 on my Golden µMax . I did air tests with the Golden comparing the Super 7 and 8 and 8X9 Tesoro coils, the Super 7 and 8 inch brown Tesoro coil were exactly the same, the 8X9 tested a quarter inch farther.

I have compared my Troy Super 7 to my Tesoro 7" concentric coil and I do get more depth with the Super 7 in my mild ground. The Super 7 does seem to reach out further from the edge of the coil to hit on targets compared to the Tesoro 7" concentric coil. With that said I have sometimes thought maybe the Tesoro 7" concentric coil may have an edge when hunting the REALLY trashy sites?? If Jack Gifford stated that the Tesoro 7" concentric coil was wound to be more like a 6" coil then that would make sense. Another feature I like about the Super 7 is the thin profile and lightweight design...it's like swinging air!
