Tesoro company stability?

New member
Hello everyone. I am in the process of deciding on a new detector and really have been thinking a lot about the Tejon. My ground is extremely mild and I was told this would be great for the Tejon. I was worried about the high frequency but my old AT Pro was 15khz so I am not worried about losing to many coin signals with the 17.?khz of the Tejon.

My concern is the company itself. The last known public communication was little more than a drunken rant and hissy fit.

My concern is this. Is the company doing well financially or is it in the final throes and about to be sold out? I would like to try a machine from Tesoro but have been hesitant due to the unstable nature of the last guy from the company who posted. Mainly because I dont want to buy a new machine and then find out a few months later that they are now closed.

This post is not meant to bash them, I just wasnt comfortable with how the representative from their company handled his last interaction with the public. Totally want to try one, just worried is all.

I think they are doing just fine. I just got my Eldorado back from having a check up and rusty gave it a clean bill of health. They came out with a new coil this year in the 8 x 11 RSD and am told to be looking for a smaller one also. I own 6 tesoros and love them all. I had the Tejon but let it go cause my Vaquero seemed to be just as deep and was easier to GB. Tesoro is just fine. Get one and have fun cause there are not many that are as much fun as a Tesoro.

who knows what's going there they do have some black paint that's about all any of us know, other than that only they know and well 2016 is just a number to them think they are stuck in the 80's not to worry though not much can go wrong with Tesoro's even if they do close the machines will live on for a long time.

Life is to short to worry about such things as that. Who knows were any of us will be in a year. There is a lot of uncertainty in the world and no one has a crystal ball. Just buy yourself a new black Tejon and go have some fun. If you decide you don't like it or whatever just sell it on the net and go buy a different machine. You won't be out that much. Right?

My 1980's Royal Sabre still works great! I would take the chance!!! Here's another thought: what if they folded and it was too late to get another Compadre?

Does it matter? Look in the bright side----
If they closed, no more Tesoros, they would immediately hit cult status, your used Tejon would be worth 50% more.
New in the Box Tesoro might be a 100% over list price.

And you could be sure there will be someone who worked at the Tesoro service dept would open a repair shop and maybe buy the remaining
inventory..............................................

If in doubt what is happening at Tesoro, better buy a couple of the same units you like now, while you can.
You just have to figure out do you buy the new black ones or do you go out and find the older brown box models, which will be worth more?

I totally agree uphuntsman. The last communication was very unprofessional. How someone who responds to customers like that and still remain with a company is nuts. With the so called "new" color. That is the color of the machines the make for the european market. Those sales have probably fell way off and they had a bunch of the black scheme around. So, they put the U.S. decals on them and claim it a new color. With their fumbling of the supposed new machine, lack of communication on these forums and even their own facebook page. Struggling seems to be the case. Like they have put their head in the sand. Its the age old thing when a companies founder passes on and the children take over the business, it usually dont stay around long. This whole thread will probably get deleted because it does not praise Tesoro and everything they do. As far as buying one, I would anyhow, they are good detectors. But, having faith in the future of the company, many do not, because of their actions these past few years. Like there is nobody in charge there and have lost all touch with their customers. After all, the customers are the only reason the have a company. Tesoro has seemed to have lost that reasoning.

Tesoro sales in the UK have not been stellar for a few years, even the Laser brand is not much better, but thats progress for you,are they finished as a detecting company that is not for me to say,the heydays are long gone i reckon and the diehards will keep it going for a little longer.

look at Makro & Nokta Go :poke: Tesoro will be the name that means extinction pretty soon , guys 1980 was 36 years ago.

AJ

Don't worry about Tesoro as they make them user friendly and cheaper to buy than other outfits..Certainy not for everyone but with their after the sale superiority certainly have their following...not to mention their likeness for gold especially the small stuff...

I just picked a Silver Sabre micromax a month ago. I haven't been out with it yet. The air test is very good. Better depth than the pre-micromax plastic box units. Tesoro makes the best non-metered analog metal detectors in my book. I look forward to a smaller RSD coil.

All I can say is things are a bit different since the sons took over but not all that different if you know their history.
They sold to Kellyco after never doing that before, one of the sons left the company and then there us that mess going on in Australia about distributors.
They finally changed their blanket we fix anything at anytime for free no matter who owns it policy, as wonderful as that was it makes no sense in this day and age and definitely cost them in their bottom line for years.
From a business standpoint when they came out with the 8" coil Compadre model and didn't charge one extra red cent for it compared to the small coil model I was floored.
Even if the coils cost the same an extra $10 would have gotten them a few more bucks, would have been a logical business move and would not have slowed down the sales of that new model one iota but I don't run their business, they do, and they can do it any way they want.
The Cazadore thing is kinda ridiculous, if they would have just held off on that naming contest until they were actually further along in the designing and manufacturing process that would have been way more logical.
Or, if they would have simply stated we absolutely have no new product yet, it takes a few years to design and manufacture any new product especially a totally new type that we are planning and we are just looking for a name to start the ball rolling that would have gone a long way to head of any miscommunication.

Why they act so illogical I have no idea, it is all so much common sense to me but the thing Tesoro is worst at is communication.
They are Luddites in the way they deal with modern technology and they rarely update their website.
It is well known that sending them an e mail is hit and miss but with them the old ways still work the best...just call them and some very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful people will always answer the phone with great info.
If you are lucky and ask you can probably get to talk to and pick Rusty's brain before he finally retires, and even the head of the company, Vince, has been known to pick up the phone from time to time.
As far as the current minimum communication on the forums this is also normal for them and rarely have they had any representatives that were good at expressing their views or disseminating any useful information.
They are just not good at this stuff and probably never will be.
What they are good at is making their type of throwback detector and those of us that own them, use them and enjoy the heck out of hunting with them think their current lineup is pretty darn good with lots of great choices for any level of hunter from entry level to flagship models.
These aren't for everyone, but for people like me the fun factor is priceless.
Not sure if they will ever compete with the top of the line technology companies and actually come out with the next latest, greatest, fully whistle and bell loaded product... it would be nice if they could but being a smaller niche company I don't know if they have the personnel or assets to do that successfully but maybe they will surprise us one day.
As far as repair there are people out there that still can and do repair long gone companies products like Compass and others so even if heaven for bid they do fold up one day I think repair service will always be around...on their current line of detectors, anyway.

It amuses me that some look for and expect them to come out with some sort of fantastically new technology, or even units with some current available technology they don't yet take advantage of and then are totally disappointed when they don't.
They just ain't that kind of company, or at least have not been since the flurry of tecnoupgrades that went on in the 80's.
If you want the latest whiz-bang technology of the 21st century nobody says you can't buy one, or two...or even have those types in a collection along with a trusty Tesoro detector.
I do, I have an F70 and 2 Tesoros and use the Fisher more but don't ever try to take my Tesoros away from me.
I still take them out from time to time, still hunt with them, still find great things with them and still totally enjoy the opportunity and experience.

If you want a Tesoro get a Tesoro.
Nobody knows what will go on in the future and worrying about unknowns is nothing I prefer to do.
Anything can happen anytime with any company and it could happen out of the blue with no warning.
Why deny the chance to have a great time with worrisome thoughts...just grab a decent tool and get out there and hunt!

Thanks for the input guys. I hope the thread does not get deleted. It was an honest thread with my real feelings and I was not bashing the company in any way. I think for some people with limited funds to spend on entertainment options the question is legitimate.

I am just tired of screens. I think I have missed more due to the number not being perfect as well as the tone. With the 2 sites I will be hunting come spring, I need something that removes the temptation of relying on a screen.

Oh yes, you will dig more and find more. It is the opposite with me though. I have never had a screened machine. I'm leaning toward's a XP Deus next year. But, as far as buying another or their "supposed" new one, i have just lost interest. May pick up a used silver Umax or a tejon someday. As far as buying a new tesoro, I think not.

1"strip of masking tape is much cheaper than a new metal detector. LOL

If it's something you cant do anything about or have no control over, then worrying about it is pointless. Who knows what is going on, and what will be going on in the future, at Tesoro. As has been said by several posters on this thread, Tesoro machines work well, find lots of stuff and provide loads of fun....add to that, they are light to swing and pinpoint like no other brand of machine that I have used. I've got four, still use them, still have fun with them. If you want a Tesoro, you have the opportunity to buy one....who knows what the future will bring. HH

Tesoro has not truly come up with anything new since 2004, the cibola and vaquero models. Everyone claim's the outlaw, 2012, in not new. Just an older model with new sticker's. Seem's the inventive person/people they had moved on to other companies with more vision to the future Those left are just stagnant and have/can not come up with anything. They have reinvented a coil, so I guess that is something. But, not coming out with any new model in close to 12 years. How can anyone believe they are going to anytime soon. The word "vaporware" pretty much sums up the cazador mystery as the years tick by. Combined with the total shutdown on social media. People are just loosing interest in them as a viable company.
