I think I can maybe help settle this, I was fortunate enough to get the best of both worlds. I had previously called around to the major "Minelab" on line stores (for the lack of a better term), got their best price, called a sponsor to this forum and he met that price and was more than helpfully and knowledgeable. I guess I can give the specific name it was Gerry,,,,,,,very good man, give him a chance. I sure hope I am not ruffling feathers here but this is what happened.....Boris

depends what you are going to use it for. Man, If your going to invest in a good machine, don't let the couple hundred dollars keep you from owning the top of the xterra line. I got to use a x50 2 weekends ago at a hunt and was glad I had gone ahead and used the 70. I use so many of the "bells and whistles" that i felt held back when I went to use something that wasn't there. Although you don't miss it if you've never had it. I am by no means saying that the 50 is an inferior machine. It did do better than alot of the machines in it's price range... but you get what you pay for..either way I say get an xterra...GH
