Teknetics T2 SE is it really as good as they say.

Guys & gals I've been doing a Lil reading on the T2 SE & was wondering if it really is the relic hunter they claim it is. How does it do on coins?

This machine kinda has got me intrigued a bit. I've read alot of good things about it.

I think maybe I'd like to try 1.

Thanks any & all help is greatly appreciated.

I’ve never laid hands on one but I’ve also heard very good things. A friend who detects a lot and has owned many of the top tier detectors said it wasn’t worth a damn.. This may not seem much help except to say there is no guarantees that it’ll perform as you’d like until you actually use one. I’d recommend you find a used one that you can sell for what you paid in case you don’t like it.

Thanks MuddyMo. Yeah too bad there was not a site or store you could rent any metal detector under the sun. That would be ideal. But I don't think such a place exists.

Keith Southern, one of the best relic hunters, says it is one of his favorite detectors which, in my opinion, says a lot. I have an old non updated one, very "sparky", that I have used for a quite a few years and found me more coins than any of my other ones. There is a forum thread about using a pulse detector to find iffy targets and then trying to find them with VLF detectors. Numbers didn't matter. The T2 in all metal hit them but the new Deus, Equinox and others didn't respond in any way in any mode. Right now mine is in the back of my pickup with the Detech Arrow coil on it and a Nel Sharpshooter and Cors Shrew sitting in reserve. I don't think you can go wrong trying it. If you are ever in SE Colorado, PM me and you can try mine out. I would send mine to you to try but I still use it a lot.

Lol if I was well off, I would own every detector. But just something about the T2 SE sparked a interest in. Yeah if I'm out that way sometime I'll hit you up. Maybe we can go dig something up.

I still have my T2SE. It is every bit as good as its reputation boasts,,,, found plenty of cool stuff with it. Lightweight, deep and only requires two AA batteries. It is a monster in all-metal. Boost Process is killer in the woods also. If I remember correctly, I mostly ran it a 2+ tones, discrim. at 21 and gain at 85 or so. It does like a rusty nail though. The 5" DD is surgical! I also have the NEL Sharpshooter and the Ultimate 13 coils.

All that said, I haven't detected with it in a while as I am really liking concentric coils these days, and that is not an option for the T2.

Good luck with your decision,,,, I can't imagine it disappointing anyone who take the time to learn it..

Thanks. Do you know if they still are producing aftermarket coils for it? Like the NEL & the 13" ultimate which I imagine is made by Detech.

Thanks.

Sorry, I do not know if they are still being produced. Best bet would be to watch the classifieds on the various detecting sites.

BTW,, I mispoke,,,, the T2 takes 4 AA batteries as I think on it more.

Yes it does----and as I remember it the T2 is listed as having a very long run time on them (40 hrs.).

There are Nel and Detech coils listed on big auction site. I have a Nel Tornado for mine which is usually somewhat deeper than the stock one unless the ground is too mineralized. Some people had trouble ground balancing with large coils. I have had places where the Tornado didn't want to balance doing my usual 8 or 10 inch down to an inch or two, but when I raised it up higher and didn't approach the ground so closely, it balanced just fine. If you hunt in all metal, this detector, in my opinion is as good as they come. If you want a deep coin hunter that gives really deep consistent numbers, there are better options. Mine is not going anywhere.

My main detector is a Deus 2. But last year, I won a T2 Classic in a contest at Digstock. As I looked around for tips and tricks, I found an old Aquachigger video that shows you how to set up the T2 in all metal mode on relic sites. I decided to experiment a bit with all metal mode, but I wasn't expecting a lot since the T2 has been around for roughly two decades.

Boy, was I wrong.

On a hunted-out site, I found three-ringers that my other detectors had missed. Most were deep. You gotta go by audio. It's subtle, but you can hear the difference between non-ferrous stuff and iron. I've also used disc mode a bit and been impressed with how sensitive that is. Earlier this year, I picked up a T2 SE and used it dig a CW percussion cap from at least five inches. Rang off clear as day.

How's it do on coins? Well, I'd say, but it definitely strikes me as a wonderful relic machine. If you're just coin shooting, there are slightly better machines. But if you have old 1800s (or earlier) sites that have been pounded and you want to see what's left, it's a great machine if you figure out all metal mode.

BTW, if you decide to buy one, check out the First Texas Products page on Fleebay. They've been handing out deals on several machines, including the T2 SE. You should make them an offer there -- and don't be afraid to go a couple hundred below the listed price. Trust me, I know. ;)

I use the T2 Special Edition and I have other nice detectors too. Minelab Manticore, Nokta Simplex Ultra and more.

Well, I use the T2 most of the time, because if you understand what Boost and Cache Mode can do for you and how easy the detector ist to use, the T2 is a killer machine.

Many don't even know that you can select the boost or cache mode on the disc side and than carry it over to all metal for even more punch.

This weekend I compared the depth of the T2 in Cache mode to a Deus 2.
T2 was about 35 percent deeper.

Now with the new lower price the T2 is a must have.

Regards from Germany,

Andy

Interesting results. Which program were you using on the D2? And what kind of targets did you use?
Cache Mode on the T2 LTD. Target was a 1Euro Coin and a coke can.
In Cache Mode the T2 beats any other detector and if you select Cache Mode first in the discrimination side and switch to the All Metal side the Cache Mode carries over to All Metal with even more punch.

Not saying that the T2 will beat the Deus in any ground or in any mode, but the power is there. Now for about 400 USD the T2 LTD is a killer detector for the money and easy to set up.

That's great to know. I'm used to carrying over boost to all metal mode, but I'll have to try cache if it's good on smaller objects, too.

I used a T2 on and off for awhile. I never run boost even if it had it. But, I've found some large cents that were ungodly deep, and the T2 called them with no exception that a large coin was down there. I'm talking a foot deep. No other machine I've used could do that, or has done it.

If you can select Cache Locating Mode is not a matter of target size. Boost and Cache reduce target separation, so it's best used on fields or in the wood.

If you have a hight Fe3 O4 reading don't use Boost or Cache because that would be like using you high beem lights of your car in fog.

Cache when openen area and low Fe3O4 reading. Swing slower.

I agree that even not using Boost or Cache Modes the T2 has lots of punch.
If I need high recovery speed for great target separation I use 3 Tones, 0 Disc and run it on high sensitivy settings if possible.

But these Boost and Cache Modes are build in for a reason. If you don't need high target separation speed and the Fe3O4 reading is low try Boost or Cache on open fields or in the woods.
I use Cache for WWII fighting places and you won't believe how deep the T2 can find helmets and other WWII stuff.
I always say: If the T2 in Cache can't find it, no other detector can find it. Same is true for the F75 LTD in Cache mode. Also brilliant detector.
