Teknetics Omega 8000 (Version 5) First Test Run :teknetics::detecting:

This version 5 is a whole lot quieter than my earlier version 4. I didn't want to travel far or detect for too long because it's kind of sloppy muddy out today. I mainly just wanted to see how well the Omega would handle EMI. I know the site well and it does have a good bit of EMI. The site has been hunted to death and every time I go there I tell myself that I'm not ever going back. But this time is for testing. To start out with I set the Omega up in single tone, full sensitivity, 35 on the discrimination and GB at 59 using the NEL Sharpshooter. Wow, no chatter! I didn't get any sufficient chatter until I moved about 150 yards closer to the road and power lines. I backed off the sensitivity to 80 and it was smooth sailing again. I got a double beep that sounded like two coins that were around 3 inches apart. I'm thinking it might be a couple of zinc pennies because the ID numbers were bouncing in the mid seventies. I circle the target to get a better angle on it and saw a 80 ID number flash on the screen. Now I'm thinking it's a good target that's being masked. I dug down around 5 inches and popped a 925 silver ring. I rechecked the hole in all metal and there wasn't anything else in or around the hole. Why the double beep? Maybe because the ring was one of those types that didn't make a full circle. Oh well. The deepest target that found today was a clad dime at 7 inches. At the time I was in 4 tone with the sensitivity on 80 when I heard a soft broken high tone. The ID stayed around 80. This coin was getting to the edge of not being correctly ID. Still not bad for using such a small DD coil. I bet the 8 inch concentric coil would get down to over 8 inches with a correct ID. I also was testing out my new (used) camera I just bought online for $20 bucks shipped. It's a Cannon Power Shot SD600. It's just like the one that I've been using for years to take pictures of my finds that finally broke. I figured out what I did wrong today, I had the 'mico' set to default and camera would only do well taking close up shots. I'm glad it was just a test run and I wasn't on one of those 7 silver coin days with a bunch of blurry pictures.

thanks for the report, I have a 6 only used it once  can only swing one at a time right

recon you are right about the jumpy ID with the broken circle ring.

my one and only hunt so far with the Omega and NEL 5" coil netted a few coins and a silver bracelet in a patch I had pounded with the GBP and fisher 5" coil.

that's what I think I like about having the F19 now and the Omega is i can swap DD coils :clapping:

just wish the O had the back light it might get more use

O has more EMI issues than the F19 but nothing extreme in that I would sell the O need to spend some more time with the O from 1st use a great machine that seems to be living right on the edge and maybe a bit over so pulling it up a bit as you explained mud in places maybe necessary.

but its not on the for sale list need to get my 100 hrs up before any machine gets reassessed do I want to go another 100 or does it need to go at this point its a keeper.

again thanks for the report seems the 7.5 kHz does like silver :wiggle:

The gap in that ring was the problem, but you've been over the area before with a lot of other detectors and the ring didn't give a good enough response to give you reason to dig it, also the sloppy wet ground changed things to.

yeah, I really like my version 5. I already like version 4 but 5 is definitely a bit hotter and quieter. I hit my 7" dime and 8" quarter in my test garden at 49 sensitivity with 11"dd. I could barely get them in the 80's on sens with my version 4.

It's good to see you out hunting again! Hopefully the weather will improve and us TN folk can start pulling mutiple silvers again!

Thanks. I ended January with a bang, 37 silver coins, 3 silver rings, a gold wedding band and a bunch of clad coins. This is my first time out since then. Either it was snowing, raining, I had something that I needed to do or I wasn't in the mood. I'm about to get fired up again. :detecting: They're forecasting 95% rain for tomorrow.

This Omega version 5 is really fun to use. It's not nerve racking at all like my version 4 was. It's runs really smooth and gives a good steady ID even on deeper targets.
