Teknetics G2 :teknetics: Digging Those Whisper Signals :detecting:

I headed out to a old park early this morning that I've been detecting lately with a couple of other detectors. I thought I'd let my G2 with the 11 inch DD coil go back over the same exact ground. What I like about the G2 is its fantastic modulated audio response, lightening fast recovery spend, quiet running, and it gives fairly accurate VDI numbers at good depth. Anytime I get a soft whisper audio signal, I'm digging especially if the ID numbers are bouncing up into or even close to the coin range. The first silver coin (1942 Mercury Dime) that I dug a give me a soft whisper signal and a bouncy 80/83 ID number. The second silver coin (1919 Canadian 5 Cent) give me a really soft whisper and around a 80/81 ID number. That thing is tiny and was down around 7 to 8 inch deep. I felt real lucky to recover it.:) The last silver coin gave a wavy soft audio response and it was giving a bouncy ID number in the aluminum screw cap range. Too soft of an audio for a screw cap. I dug down and popped a 1918 Mercury Dime dime that was on edge. A lot of other whisper signals gave me a V Nickel, 1903 Indian Head Penny, and a bunch of really old wheat pennies (1944, 1924, 1940, 1920, 1918, 1925, 1918,1919, 1936). I almost forgot I set the audio break at 50 and was running quiet at full sensitivity.

I wore myself out digging deep targets, so I left at 11:00 o'clock. Trust me, dig those whisper signals with your G2.

I'm thinking about getting the 13 inch Ultimate Coil for my G2. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yeah! Banner day and good advice! That little 5 center has GOT to be rare in your neighborhood!:surprised:
Mud

That is a pretty impressive old coin hunt. That Canadian nickel, is that the one they call a fish scale? I dug one up in Mn a few years ago and they are small. Good hunting Gerald. HH jim tn

That coin has got to be a rarer find than a gold coin or even Spanish silver in your area come to think of it....
Mud

Mud it stocked me to see something like that pop out of ground, especially being so small. For all those naysayers who think the G2 is not a silver coin detector, because it so hot on low conductors and doesn't have enough depth for old silver coins need to get a better set of headphones and listen for the whispers. Granted, if you put the coil over a gold ring or nickel it's going to hit them much harder than silver coins. Probably, what helped in recovering the small coin was the fact that the G2 was running so quiet and smooth making it easier to hear what was going on. My other detectors that I used at that site were all jumpy and chatty because of all the EMI in the area.

One can only speculate as how the coin got where it did. Someone long ago was visiting or moved here and lost the coin or someone went on vacation and brought it back and lost it. Finding another one won't ever happening again in my lifetime. Neither will finding another Spanish Half Reale.

On another note, the headphone cable extension mod worked out great. Mud thanks for the parts link. It wasn't hard to do at all. I thought I'd have a problem soldering the cable plug, but it turned out to be real easy. Having the cable plug come out the back of the detector out of the way sure is an improvement. Having to plug the headphones in on the side of the housing was making me curse some. The cable was always getting in the way.:ranting:

dimes at the 6" depth with my G2 and that was with the 5" stock coil, really impressed me. Thinking about getting the Ultimate coil myself. What is this headphone mod? Thanks and good hunting......

A picture is worth a thousand words. Mud put me onto where I could order the parts on line. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?18,2039833

I ended up ordering the 10' cable with 2 the 90 degree 1/4 '' stereo plugs on both ends so I would have enough cable to make two extensions.

Soldering wasn't hard at all.:) Just remember that the red wire goes to the darker terminal. I had a 50 50 chance of getting it right and won.

tabman congrats on a great day out detecting that "fishie" is in great shape. its a great find even here in canada and yes they are very small but made of .925 silver. if ya ever fine the 21' fishie it worth a pile of cash cheers

Congrats man that is cool!! Yep I need the G2 to go with my ETP least I can use the same coils on them !

You will like the extra coverage & depth that a ultimate coil gives you.

The G2 rocks ...coins or relics...it can't be stopped. Just got an NEL coil for my G2 and couldn't be happier ! Getting rid of my other machines because this one will make them sit in the closet...only wish is that I had found out about the G2 sooner.

Heh Little John...keep it secret though, ok?

Heck it's already the best kept secret there is....if I had known sooner, I would have saved some serious coin and been much happier much sooner.

tabman, congrats to your excellent finds!

when i look of the the size of your holes I'm really impressed. which digging tool do you use? i have not so much practice with my new g2 - especially problems with pinpointing. if i dig objects in more than 5" in those the most cases the holes have double or triple size. then the objects are also often on the edge of the hole ...
sorry for my bad english

It's a modified Wilcox Trowel. The blade is only 2 inches wide. Don't forget on pinpointing that you can make the signal less strong and more precise by releasing and re-pushing the pinpoint button while the coil is near the target. Once you get it figured out it real easy.

Especially in disc mode high gain hunting. All Metal/PP is super hot at high gain and detuning is absolutely needed. At first I was pin pointing 6 inches above the ground to zero it since it's so hot above 90 gain! (or turn down to 50 to pinpoint, reminds me of vaquero super tune)

i will train pinpointing in my garden and have to read the manual again. many thx for the advices.
tabman, this tools looks very nice but not so solid - is it good on hard soils? also you need power on the wrists, had a operation on my right wrist last year, so a spade with a long rod works better for me. Thanks for the pictures! :clapping:
