Tejon, Vaquero or Cortes ?

Chuck answered the question but didn't address the Vaquero's performance on beaches. I'm curious to know myself.

I have not had to opportunity to use the Vaquero on a beach, so I believe it would be better for someone who has that experience, to address that part of the question.

Hello Beggars Tomb,

I have an M6. It is one of the best detectors I hae ever used on coins and jewelry. But, it would not be my first choice for relic hunting. I would stick with the Tejon, Cibola or Vaquero.

I know this is an old thread but after reading it since I would like to
hear the answer to the original question also I realized that it was never answered.
Chuck: The Cibola was never part of the original question. He was
wondering about the differences between the Tejon, Vaquero and Cortez.
Maybe someone could still chime in on the original question.
Thanks,
Randy

Well RANDY.......perhaps you should ask one of the others in this old thread, and they can get you the answer, since my posts weren't what you wanted to hear.

I know this is addressing a post that is over four months old, but I figure that if anybody does a search they'd like the information.

I've used the Vaquero on a saltwater beach (in Monterey, CA) and it works flawlessly in dry sand. However, in wet sand on the surfline, it does go a bit crazy, so you need to turn down the sensitivity and turn up the discrimination, else it'll chatter like a hypothermic beaver.

I did find a quarter and a .925 silver hoop earring at the tideline (between waves), so even with reduced sensitivity and higher discrimination there are still treasures to be found, though you'll pretty much be limited to the top 3-4" of the sand... not those 12"+ depths of something like an Excalibur.

Hmmm?? I'm not really sure how to respond to this. I actually was asking
others in my post when I said:

"Maybe someone could still chime in on the original question."

That someone could have been you too Chuck but you chose to respond in a thin skinned and imature way. I have only been in this hobby for two
whole months now and on this site for much shorter so Iam certainly
not here to cause any friction as detecting is not my life. I have
noticed in going through the threads that you seem to get offended quite
easily. I was only stating the obvious and was hoping someone (including
chuck) could shed some more light. Why you would respond as if someone was
attacking you I have no idea? Maybe you just like the sarcastic confrontation......I dont know?

Would still like some more info on the Cortes if someone(including chuck)
has anything constructive to say.
Randy
