target trace question

First of all I am new to the CTX, have had it for 8 months. My understanding the target trace is a visual trace on the detect screen that traces in real time the FE-CO numbers and the colors indicate signal strength with dark red the highest and yellow lowest.

Someone I think on this forum ask if the Manticore could show the outline of the target like the CTX. My understanding is that a nice tight circle dark red would represent any target that does not vary much on the FE-CO TID which does include coins. But it is not showing you the roundness of the coin but rather that the FE-CO number reporting are not varying at all or not much.

A single target that shows a long narrow target trace is not showing a long narrow target but rather a single target with two different metals in the target.

Am I right or am I off base here saying neither the CTX nor the Manticore can show the actual shape of the target, only the Differences in the FE-CO numbers?

I am not trying to discount anyone's post, just trying to understand for myself what actually causes the target trace.

Yellow is not the lowest light baby blue is very hard to see outside .As to shape we don't know yet .sube

I believe you are correct, at least for the CTX. The target trace shows the "intensity" of the signal by the Fe-CO numbers plotted on the two-dimensional axis. Solid, dark red indicates a high likelihood that the target is displaying the Fe-CO numbers that are plotted. Sporadic, lighter colors indicate lower intensity that is caused by either falsing or a deep target. I get a better sense of the "shape" of a target on the CTX by the audio response actually and not the VID.

As for the Manticore, none of us are lucky enough to be Minelab Detexperts and get to do trial tests, so I can only go off of the videos. Round, flat targets appear to be a tight, round pattern on the 2d display and elongated targets tend to be wider. (That is how my ears "hear" different sized targets with the CTX by the way.) I am not sure if this is due to the intensity of the target or its shape. I know Lawrie said in the German test video that coins on edge will not appear "rounded" on the 2d display.

To my knowledge, the only detector on the market that shows a legit target shape is the $$$$$Nokta Invenio$$$$$$. It is priced out of most of our budgets.

Ironman I think I get your audio shape. With me, in pinpoint sizing a coin sized object give of a shorter tone, and a larger object is more drawn out. and I can tell from an elongated item like a none-ferrous say 10" copper pipe. Do you use pinpoint sizing or just regular pinpointing for your size determination?

Also overload is a good indication of a big target
