T2 Sale.... ended reserve not met!

But that may just be a blessing and a good thing! Orginally I bought the T2 for the wife. But with her latest find with her Tek Turbo I'll never get her to use the T2. It's going to end up being a second detector for me for a while, or a loaner for a frind to hunt with. The GTI 2500 does get heavy at times, so the T2 will be a welcome resting spot until I gain more confidence. It's a great machine what I've seen so far. It's deep, It's quick to ID, I just need more time on ground with her!

The T2 has been put back in service and I am practicing for a open competition hunt. The GTI is too heavy for this kind of action as competition hunts are for the most part Fast & Furious so to speak...
Any users have any great ideas of how you would use this T2 in a competition hunt for Gold and Silver?

What settings would you recommend for the Gold and Silver hunts.
Most targets are coin or nuggets, buried usually 3-4 inches:

T2 Discrimination: Use it or not?
What driscrimination settings would be your hunt choice involved with gold and silver?

If you would choose to use discrimination... what would be your choice for the sensitivity settings?

All metal:Use it or not?
If you choose to use all metal mode, what would be your choice for the sensitivity setting then?

For what reason do you prefer one over the other in different types of hunting?
Oh yea one last thing...what tone levels would you recommend?

Just curious as to you own expertise though levels....Your level... where ever you are with your T2; your information is valuable to someone, even seasoned veterans as you may have noticed something that can make a difference in hunting for everyone!

Thanks for any information you can share with everyone, and I so much appreciate your time iin sharing your thoughts with us on this subject, as well as other subjects that you guys have helped with in the past!

This site is a valued asset!

Thanks KCK

P.S. Glad T2 has the Website up and running...
I wonder how Dave Johnson feels about his T2 design being used as a competition detector, There sure are a lot of good folks involved with competition hunts and although he does not mention the T2 as a good competition detector, he says it great on small items (Gold nuggets included you think?) Would sure be nice to hear what the creator of the T2 thinks about it's capabilities for this type of hunting!

Heck maybe the T2 will be like my old orginal Remmington 870 Wingmaster. A Ledgend in it's time and beyond.

Had to share a detecting picture with you guys and gals today...
The wife works with our grandaughter to show her the values of treasure hunting. (Picture over picture)

Hello KCK,

That is the most beautiful picture posted on the metal detecting internet of all time, Lovely shot of your wife and grand daughter.

The Tekentics Turbo Competition detector was designed for competition hunts, Maybe stay with this detector for the coming Competition event. The T-2 may experience some interference from the many different types of detectors beside you and shifting to a smoother frequency will take up valuable time. If I as going into a competition arena and still had my Tek Turbo I would use the Tek Turbo over the T-2, The Tek Turbo is designed for this type of hunting.

Thanks for sharing KCK and I'm saving the picture in my file, May even print it out and frame it.. Great pic!

All the best, Old Cal.

put in the description what the reserve is, it cuts down on people bidding if their not willing to spend that amount. BUT, the item usually sells. Now, if I just put a reserve on the auction and don't list the amount of the reserve, then quite often it won't sell and I have to relist it.

I tried my T-2 at our open hunt 2 weeks ago and found that it chattered real bad and no matter which freq I tried or what disc settings I used.I lowered the sensitivity to 40 too and never went lower. I had to use one of my other detectors I brought with for the rest of the hunts. Most of the detectors used where Minelab, but there were Whites, Garretts, Fishers and some Tesoros and they all seem to bother the T-2. Mine was just back from the upgrades too, so even though it has a fast response that is nice for this type of hunting I just found it chattered too much.
I just thought of something you can try just to see, turn on all your detectors within 4-10 feet of a area and then try the T-2 in that area and see what happens.
I seen last week too a brand new T-2 sold very cheap on E Bay, but I think once a few more great finds are found and posted on the Internet things will change. Maybe it is a good thing yours didn't sell as better things are to be found with yours.

Good luck

Rick

Anyone have any idea why the T2 appears to be interfered with worse than other brand detectors? Did they do a poor EMI shielding job or what?
I work at an EMI lab and when I can afford a T2 I'm going to check it out at the lab and modify it for better rejection of outside noise sources such as other metal detectors, cell phones and 60 Hz broadband sources.

Hi Kck,

Most of the other's answered your post well. I think rick posted he had problems in the hunt with his. interference at the hunts is always a problem and seems like the T-2 could be affected by other detectors at the hunts. usually only detectors on the same or similar freq. will give you problems. at 13kHz you wouldn't think this would not happen as much with the T-2. about the only thing you could check out is how close you can get to other detectors before it starts getting noisy on you. it can be real bad in hunts sometimes. I have even bought freq. shifters and still had a few problems. as far as silver coins and gold nuggets in the hunt the only problem you may have would be on the nuggets, depending on the size. as a gold nuggets can actually come up almost anywhere on your detector. and you need a detector that can pick up a small nugget. which the T-2 would handle. but hunts are different than just detecting. hunt speed, quick response etc. think if you had another detector that could handle it, I would use it.

Here is a few small things I have found here using the T-2. a fast quick sweep speed will get you almost a couple inches more depth than a slow sweep. you can check this out in the ground or on the bench sweep a coin across the coil like a slow sweep till you loose the beep then move your coin back a couple inches and sweep it fast and you should pick up the coin loud and clear. one other thing I found important on the T-2 was to manually ground bal. the T-2 as close as you can get it. it is alot more stable. the fast grab gets you close but just like the cz's using the preset ground bal. it wont be as stable and you can get some noise. anyway it's been alot quieter here by doing that. another thing on the tone Id it is deeper here than the visual Id I was getting a high tone Id for coins but no visual ID . couldn't figure out what was happening at first. the tone Id will Id deeper than the visual ID at least here in my area. you can also check this in the ground. raise your coil after you get a coin until you no longer have a visual Id and you should still be getting a tone Id. now this may not work the same for you but maybe it will.....

On the ground balance being more stable by manually setting it, but still use my fast grab and if still a bit noise I will go to manual and touch it up.
Also on the audio ID going deeper than the visual ID I was wondering if my T-2 was having a problem as I get some nice tones, but the meter stays blank when they are real deep. I think I notice this more after the upgrades than I did before. I think this has something to do with the audio and visual work off different circuit if I understand it correctly.
Anyway I feel those that get to know this detector will be well happy with it, but like any detector it is not a perfect one that will do everything and may not be the best choice for competition hunting.

Rick

Rick, I still use the fast grab myself sometimes. and yep none of these detectors are perfect, but see alot of good things on the T-2.
and hope I feel the same way in a mo. or two. have a good one...

no interference even from other Xterra's. I was huntin right beside Ron and he had an Xterra 30 and I was using my 70 and had no problems at all. Same with the Coinstrike, I use it during a couple of the hunts to see how well it did and never had the first problem with interference + it also has a fast recovery time as well.

Hi frank,

I'm not an expert on electronics, wish I was sometimes. but what I have noticed from detecting, some of the real or or extra sensitive detectors are that way. I'm talking the ones like the T-2 that have extreme depth but can be noisy in certain situations. the one thing that I have found on the T-2 that I couldn't do on them, is turn it down enough to quiet it and still have great depth. there is a couple other detectors that have great depth and extra sens but I could do nothing to quiet them down here. and they are both good detectors other than that for me. just wonder if it's possible to have that much gain or sens. and not get some noise. maybe in order to get the depth and extras many of us want in a detector we may just have to put up with it as much as possible if we are seeking extra performance. and actually I don't really have a problem most of the time with interference on the T-2 just in certain instances. trust me noisy detectors drive me nuts and if the T-2 was that bad at least in the area I hunt I probably wouldn't still have it. now others may be in an area that does have real bad interference so who know's.....

I tried my Sovereign GT on the second hunt, but too heavy with all the goodies on it. The GT at freq 2 and the Explorer caused a lot of interference, flip to freq 1 and the Sovereigns caused a lot of interference. The X-Terra 30 I had with worked good around all of them, no interference at the last 2 hunts.

Rick

Sounds like the extera's do pretty good. the last hunt I went to was a few yrs back and we had 3 shadow x2's either 1a and 2B's or 2B's and 1a anyway it doesn't matter. we also had a golden sabre. was a little heavy but fast response time. was a two day hunt and the x2's were setting off some tesoros and some tesoros were setting them off,
even had some freq changers I had got from keith wills we put on after the first hunt, but still didn't help. so all we could do was stay 20 to 30 ft or more from most detectors and wish for the best. the old golden sabre was used in all the hunts for both days and wasn't bothered at all. sometimes it makes you wonder about these detectors. you just never know.......

Could you do me a big favor and air test a nickel at different sensitivity settings please? Like from zero to max at increments of 10 or something similar. What I am wondering is, is if it is set up like some of the hotter relic machines in that at zero it still gets like 5-6" in air and in ground.

TIA
Tom

it will hit a nickel with audio and visual ID between 4-5". At 50% sensitivity, which is was set at 50, it hit on the nickel with both audio and visual ID at about 9". Now at sensitivity set at 99, which is wide open, it hit on the nickel with both audio & visual ID at better then 14", but the unit was a tad unstable, but these tests were performed inside. Like I said, thise machine is very hot on small targets.

The silver bracelet I found the other day, was in pieces and I was having to dig quite a few links seperately and the T2 hit on them each with a strong tone and they were a good 6-8" although I didn't really measure the depth. I was impressed.

sensitive even at lower settings, quick recovery time, light weight and no interference from other machines.

Tom,

Checked it in the house. I turned the sens down to 1 and could get a nickle at 5"or 6"
at 20%and 40% was getting 8"or9" depending on how fast or slow I sweep the nickle. at 60% or higher was getting around 12" or better.
also the higher the sens the louder the signal without changing the vol setting. tom one thing I've found since using the T-2 is the depth and the tone Id is better in the ground, even bad ground, than in the air unlike many others detectors. don't know if this helped any or not...

don

Thats exactly what I wanted to know. One of my test targets is an on edge dime at around 6" and there are only 2 detectors I have tried that will get it at 0 sens settings. Both are relic detectors.
Thanks for the help.

Tom
