T-Rex scoop...?

No no, you want those small hole to catch earrings and other small valuables.

I'm wondering if you zip tied a flap of heavy plastic to one side of the scoop (top of the flap only so it wouldnt interfere with normal operation) and then just drug it on that side if it would cure the sand collecting in the scoop problem...
 
That might work. I was thinking of putting a magnet in the bottom that is about the size of my palm. Maybe that will keep some of the sand out as well. I'll have to mess around with it and see.
