My experience with black sand is from Canada only as it doesn't exist as a beach condition here in Bermuda. It is a layer of heavy iron laced sand (baslt or granite based) that is black/rust in color and is typically covered by a lighter layer of beach sand.
Any others out there with more East Coast United States experience feel free to jump in.

this seems to make less falsing. Abrupt stops, bumpy sand bottom, raising and lowering the coil will cause falses as well. At least for me.

Some areas on my beach can handle the senitivety at MAX. When the falsing is uncontrollable, then the lowering a little at a time till the falsing is bearable usually ends up at about 12 to 1 o'clock.

We do have black sand in these parts, but I haven't attributed any falsing because of the black sand.

This 4th of July weekend at the beach, netted me lots of modern clad, but the funny thing was that my brother, 1st time to use a metal detector, using my Sovereign Elite, got his first ring. He was thrilled, and I was skunked. No jewelry for me this time out.

I will need to re-evaluate the possibility that my Sovereign or Excal would be deeper using the DISC mode instead of the all-metal mode. I should have known.
