Sweet home or Tboykin I have a question ?

Will I need to carry a Phillips screw driver with me for my MX sport arm cuff screw ? It will not stay tight, no I haven't stripped it out by over tightening , What should I do? I sure wish they would have put two screws in that cuff, a lot of stress from swinging back and forth in water must loosen it . And as you know the arm cuff and hand grip really help keep this nice machine stable while swinging. I would put another screw into it , but wouldn't want to mess the machine or warranty up. . any ideas ? Waterhound

I'm thinking that one screw in the arm cuff is OK swinging in lite air it has very little resistance , but water is alot denser and drag and resistance is increased much more , double that in a river current or waves, one of my metal detecting colleagues is a engineer and he noticed right away the weakness in the arm cuff how it sits on the battery box and mentioned at least two screws should have been used. I wish that whites would have worked on this important area a little more instead of seeing how high they could drop it , most detectorist will use this in water , not on a roof, its a water machine ! I'm sure many of you are saying it works for me, that's great! But I generally hunt 6 to 8 hours a day in water , so my MX is definitely being tested in that area, OK I doubt they will do a recall on this one maybe they will send a screw driver with every one lol. I still like this sweet machine and have inspired others to try it ! And is my first choice now . waterhound

Personally I like to carry a small toolkit or multi-tool in my pouch, you never know when you'll need a screwdriver or set of pliers. But I will pass along your thoughts to the engineers. On the next machine we can test that specific feature out in a water tank with heavier resistance.

You are what we'd consider a power user if you are in the water that long. How do you keep your fingers from getting all wrinkly?!? From what I have seen most people don't take their MX Sport out in the water that much (some at all), but they like the peace of mind knowing that it's capable of doing that. Kinda like having a 4x4 truck that stays on paved roads. Still, good to know of any weak points on the machine for the next generation.

Power hunter ! Did you guys make it for weekend wannabees, you were dropping it on the ground ! Did you even try it in the in a lake or ocean? As for my fingers getting wrinkled ! I'm surprised you even asked that! Most detectorist where neoprene or long waterproof gauntlet trappers gloves . Today l got a visit from a MX owner and he took off my arm cuff and should me two broken pieces of cheap plastic that were at one time connected to the arm cuff , his were broken the same way and he hunts less. I am glad whites put two other screw holes in the battery box so we can modify . When your engineers fix this serious structural problem in the next generation try setting the arm cuff over something square or inset the cuff so it won't want to pivot like it does on that oval hump. The cuff assembly does not match the rest of this wonderful detector thank god! Yes its still my best machine. Waterhound

Sorry tboykin !for carrying on about this , I thought you were making excuses for a not so good engineer design, I've been watching how you responded to detectorist way back when the MX was introduce on the market with its problems , before the updated version and you really did a good job, cause their was a lot of heat coming at whites and you , you are a good mediator , for whites ! And they better hang on to you, despite my rantings! I like my MX sport , l am amazed at how deep l can find an earring . waterhound

No need to apologize, it really helps the company to hear from customers whether it's a ring found at 14" or a wobbly arm cup. That's the only way we can improve products.

What I was getting at is when you build a product you can't really ever account for all the different ways people will use it. You can try, and listening to what people say after a release is the way you make the next one better. But a company can never build a perfect product, and there will always be customers who aren't satisfied. Still, it should never make you stop trying.

One quote that always hits home with me in this job is something Lincoln said - he had a much bigger task of trying to keep the nation intact during his days as president:

“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”

There are guys out there who expect a metal detector to not only tell them exactly what is in the ground with 100% accuracy, but also dig, polish, grade, and sell their finds for them (not talking about anyone specifically, just something I've noticed in general). I don't think we will ever be able to please them, but it doesn't hurt to try!

Tboykin what are you saying? I thought you got the message loud and clear! The plastic parts on the back of the arm cup that fit into the slots on the battery box are to small and break off! So because of just one screw on the cup its not stable. And you said whites can't do much about the differnt ways people use the detector, we put it in the air or water and swing it! Maybe whites needs to warn people about over use, or a warning to power users, and then you say their are detectorist that want the machine to find it, clean it , and polish it, and sell it, thats a bit extreme to say that, detectorist just want want what they paid for , all you should have said is thanks will look into it , but instead you make excuses and rip on detectorist about over use or wanting to much, I was right when I said whites should hold on to you , your slippery and can't really be pinned down about something , definitely a company man

Well what do you know! I called whites to get a replacement arm cuff , and they said the arm cuffs are not under warranty, yet when I read the web site it said on new machines everything was and no labor cost! The man l talked to was kind and said he would send me the older arm cuff with 3 holes so I can use 3 screws if needed to anchor the cuff down, We'll get through this! I'm glad other companies warranty all their detector parts even if they're flawed, go ahead let me have it! Looks like its not really a parts problem! If the warranty does not cover a part , then somethings up! And that's not the time to charge for it, just give the part for free or fix the problem. Dont be that way whites , I'm talking about a ten dollar part! Dont make faithful customers pay for flawed parts.

Tboynkin speaks from experience with thousands of customers, I am sure he does not intend to insult us. You missed the part in his response, entirely, that your feedback and everyone elses is valuable in going forward engineering. If you choose not to accept that, then you are one of those. But I get it.
