Super 12" with the V-very 1st time out

I received my Super 12" on Sat, but had a busy weekend and early work week so I finally got a chance to get out after work today for about 2 hours. I must admit, the 12" does take some getting use to compared to the DD and 5.3 mainly because it seems to pick up a LOT of signals(I assume due to its size/depth ability). I already realize this is NOT the coil of choice for high target areas, trash or good. At first all I was hitting was clad anywhere from 2"-5" down, then a wheat cent(1941) at 6.5". About 1.5 hrs into it I got a weak, but consistent 83.Threw it into analyze and got a hump, but not a pretty one. Then, when I went to pinpoint I couldn't get a thing! I decided to bump my all metal sensitivity up for 60 to 67(I was in my version of a deep silver program....very close to the stock one). Tried pinpointing again and this time a weak signal/tone at 12"! I proceeded to dig a large plug and removed it....about 10". Put the pinpointer in the hole and got a hit. Dug down with my hands and BANG! there she was! What more could I ask for!? Fist use with the 12" and already....SILVER! And not just any silver either! Notice it's a "d" mint mark! Can't wait to put this coil to use in some wide open land. It might not be the 1st coil I go to in most cases, but if I want depth and targets are spaced well enough apart, the 12" is $$in the bank!

Nice find duclaw! I'll have my 12" coming soon and cant wait to try it out!

Very nice! And your sensitivity was just at 67? Cool! :)

My all metal(aka DC sensitivity) was 67, which is actually much higher than most factory presets. I normally keep it at 60 in my deep silver, but I think I'm going to bump that up to 65 permanently and see how the program behaves normally. I find the stock deep silver setting at 70 is just a bit too much in most areas I hunt.

What a great way to break in the 12". Congratulations duclaw.

What do you mean by "too much"? I usually crank mine up (80 or higher) -- is there a reason I shouldn't?

I definitely think so in All Metal mode or in the case of the program I was running, Deep Silver as both my version and the stock program runs in mixed mode. As you may or may not know, mixed mode runs non motion alongside motion. With that said, a VERY sensitive DC setting in mixed (or all metal mode) will most likely cause a LOT of false/erratic signals.

Ah. I don't run mixed mode much yet, but that's good to know. Thanks!

REAL nice find . I have recomended the Super 12 in my last 4 posts. I lift the coil off the ground if need be for suspected close targets.
