SunSpot Stealth Water Scoop Too Heavy to Carry?

Hi, Im thinking to buy SunSpot Stealth Scoop soon how heavy it is? 4 lbs? hope not more than 6....
And they have 2 the 8" and the 6.5" ? What's the best?

I have the 6.5 and like it. Sand sifts through quickly and the small stuff stays in. Weight not a problem and it is a tough scoop in rocks and clay. I sprayed the back with rubber tool dip and it keeps your foot from slipping off in the water. If you are just in sand I like the RTG 6 inch. The travel handle works very well on the Sun-Spot if you need one. What ever scoop you decide on get a good one you will not regret it. HH :minelab:

I've been using the Sunspot Stealth 8" for about 2 months now.
For in the water it's great, its big basket takes a big bite, and the weight is mostly countered by the buoyancy of the wood handle, also the heavy basket doesn't get pushed around by the waves like my aluminum scoop does.
For the wet and dry sand though, it's size and weight is an annoyance.

I like to mostly hunt the wet sand and water, and I rarely hunt the dry sand, so I wish I had a scoop that I could more easily transition from water to wet sand.... IMHO, the stealth 8" is not the scoop for this task, it's just too heavy.
The next scoop I'll try will be a Stavrscoop, as I understand they are a bit lighter.

Don't get me wrong, the Sunspot is an amazingly well-built scoop, perfect for water hunting. Again, it's just a little heavy to be my all-purpose scoop.

My 8" Sunspoit weighs in at 5lbs 14oz. They are a great scoop for sand, mud and clay, but not ideal for hard bottom or rocky areas (I have trouble getting the scoop to penetrate in those conditions).

It has a "T " handle top and in the water it fells very lite. The scoop is the suger sand scoop with 1/4 inch holes and works very good on small gold earrings.

He is getting ready to introduce a brand new model any day....80 degree handle and much better footpad.....at like 7 inches

IF.... big IF there is a flaw its going to be the top front. I see he added a little reinforment to that area. I put my handle on top and thats where the pull and bow is. Id like to seen no holes/added materal on that top welded area Chuck. Thats one sharp looking scoop thou. In coorperates a lot of the good things from various scoops.... i like it. I use a 9 1/2 X 11 1/2 pro scoop with a handle i got off of a tree cutter. Those big scoops are heavy to drag in the dry sand...... but in the water baby you cant beat them. I also like these mentioned better than say an enclosed RTG...... because targets tend to get pushed out of them when they fill, they arent much lighter, they tend to want to turn on you in hard bottoms, nor do they drain any better.

dew!!!! i have the same scoop you do and im going to switch to a enclosed scoop with larger holes! not the rtg, i have another that im working on.
1. i do not like the open design in the rough surf since one strong wave or receding wave can remove all that exposed material.
2. the small holes capture alot of shells and you have to sift through that to get to your target or see if its even there!!!!!

i imagine it perfect for the calmer gulf coast and suger-sand. i might like the proscoop max uses with the slightly enclosed bucket.

Thanks for all the info. I decided to buy one sunspot 8" ..... Hope I'm getting one of the best scoops in the market :)

I have a similar scoop and though heavy on land, I don't notice the weight in the water. What I really like about these style scoops is the wood handle...the handle is wants to float so I can let go of the scoop and it stays put. Mine is a 90 degree angle scoop, I would highly recommend one with like a 20 degree angle...like the one he is about to release.

Awesome improvements Chuck. No more handle obstruction in the scoop, angled handle and an excellent angle in the rear of the bucket for your foot.

Any manufacturer that is willing to make improvements to their product line has to be admired. Rather than staying with the old, Chuck moved on and made an even better scoop. I would be willing to bet that revisions to this new model will be made in the future after it's been in the field and has been through the torture tests.

I would still like to see a pipe sleeve for the handle rather than u-bolts.

I made a heavy duty ( 12 gauge ) scoop for rocky places and it still wanted to bend on the front top. I had to add a 1/4" x 1/2" piece of S/S flat bar, welded on edge, to eliminate the problem.

Go to youtube and look for "golddiggers proto beach scoop" and see what Ron at Golddiggers in NJ has built....I have ordered one and by what I see in the video i feel that I am going to like it a lot....It weighs 4.5 lbs. with 1/4 inch holes...and not wood shaft in the scoop....take a look before you buy. It might be the one you are looking for....He calls it the T-Rex....measurements on it are 9.5 inches wide, 11.5 inches deep and 5 inches tall...it is a good looking scoop.

How much is it? I went to their website and I can't see it..

Just my opinion, it is too heavy for wet sand or dry sand. It is OK in the water if it had an angled handle. I sold mine due to the 90 degree handle. No good for deep water hunting. If you buy a stainless scoop be sure it has an angled handle otherwise your face will be in the water trying to set the scoop. Important. If you are a wet sand hunter like me, aluminum with stainless lip is the way to go. RTG.

This is why I have 4 scoops. 3 stainless and 1 aluminum. One for dry/wet sand (aluminum), one for bay beach hunting which has lots of crushed shell/mud bottom (5"x9"), one for in the water hunting with sandy bottom and one for water hunting with shell/gravel/sand bottom. Each one has it's own place. HH
