I have a 5 year old set of ProGold Headphones with the limiter switch and have been thinking of using them with an MXT. Would the Pro Golds and an MXT be a good combination?

Only you can decide! With the switch it is like two different pairs. Try them both. I have multiple detectors and they work well on almost all of them.
