Sunday Hunt. (One of those finds.)

My silver coin streak is alive. 1941 dime. Five wheats. Tiny silver ring. Coin from Trinidad. Some junk jewelry. One of those finds you ask? The locket. What's it made of? It isn't marked. It had a lot of little black marks on it so I thought gold plated. Took an eraser to those marks and they vanished immediately. Put it on the gold tester. Tests 10K. Rings up around penny. If you examine it closely, you can see it is constructed of two pieces per half. Here is my guess. The inner compartment is brass. The outer shell is gold. Just my guess. It could be very, very, heavy gold plating. I am going to do some more testing. I haven't logged it as a gold find yet but I'm leaning toward doing so. Weight 10.2 grams. Opinion?

PS The picture is before polishing. It polished up very nicely.

:usaflag:It looks like gold to me....nice finds Chris !

Alan. I've written this before. When I first joined here you were in the middle of your "hunt the dried up lake bed" phase. You used the large coil on your 2500. One day I tried mine out and I hated it. Could NOT make it work. When I finally found a decent silver coin site, I hit it hard with my stock coil. Figured it had played out and I decided to try the large coil for a few minutes. I had missed a lot! Found about two dozen additional silver coins. This weekend I hunted for 12.5 hours and used the large coil for 11.5 hours of that. It rarely leaves my machine now. You told me way back then to keep practicing with it. I finally got it a few years later.

It's got a lot of gold in it, but I still think the inner compartment is brass. I did some reading and saw that they made a lot of lockets with rolled gold back around the turn of the century. I scaped down a little on a small portion of the back of the locket and didn't reach any base metal. Still tests as gold. I logged it as a gold find but cut the weight in half just to be accurate, or at least as accurate as possible. What the heck. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for looking, Ron.

Alright!:bouncy:Nice hunt!:detecting:Good clad haul!:clapping:Congrats on the gold and silver!:cheers:Thanks for sharing!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Hey Chris thanks for the compliment! I love that coil for sure, man it is deep...The extra depth in disc mode is what got me with that coil as the stocker in that mode is a little week unless it is cranked to 11-max sensitivity.
I must say I miss using it out here in Oregon...the ground is way hotter here than in Ga so it goes nuts with that big of a field coming from it. But you got me thinking now, I must test it out some more in some areas that are hot but it is dirt which is more stable than rocks everywhere, like a gravel bar or along a creek.

Glad you have mastered that big coil....Speaking of that dry lake bed, not sure if you remember but I hit a pulltab at 10" with the 12.5 coil in disc mode and the Imaging and GTA scale told me...pulltab, size B, 10 inches...I dug it and holy smokes, that was exactly what it was...couldnt believe it. Good ole GTI 2500.

Enjoy your post and pics!

Alan

Very nice finds! A lot of coins and the gold plated item looks great. I wonder how old this is, any thoughts?

Eric.

That locket is something special and a couple paper towels full of clad and a 41 dime and silver ring is pretty impressive.
