Fantastic idea, and you could get them at a second hand store, goodwill, or flea market, probly for a couple bucks, I gotta try that COOL=:detecting:

Would also love to see someone come up with a "universal" attachment to attach most any brand of detector to a standard rod "crutch".

here you go, a friend of mine made this for the sovereign, with meter mount too

Wanted to try this, but all the thrift stores in my area didn't have any crutches. Ordered a straight shaft from Arizona Outback, along with a lower shaft. The only thing that had to be moded was to mou the box up under the cuff the way I wanted & drill two holes for the meter mount. A little more than a crutch, But way less work. I've been using it for over a year now& love it less strain on the wrist & with the box up under the elbow I can hunt a lot longer before the shoulder starts complaining.

VERY GOOD! im sure it works but its upside down? maybe?... bend on the elbow throws the tips of the crutch towards your ankles, so it needs to be in reverse to send the coil infront
of your feet, only know because my other half broke her ankle after me looking at getting hold of a crutch for ages!!! if you get any tinker time try drilling out the pop rivets that hold the handle in place and spin it around, altough then there would be a funny bend under your wrist area, you never touch it, as in, hold the grip and elbow held in the cup. im sure your on to something there...
ps hope you dont mind me saying this, realy nice to see someone trying something new, and my way round could be rubbish, its one of those suck it and see ideas.

if i can get hold of a old pair of cruches i will have a tinker about and see what happens. if it all goes wrong i can only say, well i tryed.

Where did you get your handle?

Hi Ivan,

I searched several suppliers for the rake you described locally and didn't come up with anything like it!.

The nearest K-Mart is a bit of a treck from here so I opted to go with aluminum tubing instead.

After trying several outlets (Wallmart, Lowe's, Home Depot, and several hardware stores.) I managed to secure an eight foot length of the right sized tubing at a local hardware store.

These are the shafts I built using this tubing.

The straight shaft I built for the Infinium LS is much more comfortable to use than the factury shaft!

The stabilizer for the Ininium coil.

It doesn't increase drag enough to be a problem.

In fact it slows my swing just enough to improve my search results

This is the straight shaft I built for the old style Excal I have!

The last picture is of a bit of PVC pipe and electrical plastic tie straps I fitted to the Excal coil to stabilize it at the angle I find most useful!!

Hope you folks can see how easy it is to make your own equipment when you have a tiny bit of mechanical ability and a few simple tools!

Hi Ivan,

I just stumbled on your reply and thank you for your comments fellow hunter.

This is the time of year when I, a poor juggler at best, must perform as a master juggler.

Somehow I have been able to sneak away for a little R&R an hour or so most days too!

GL&HH Friend,
