Straight Ace 250

I decided to try a straight shaft mod on the ACE 250. I bought my usual 7/8" anodized aluminum tubing from the local ACE hardware. I had to shave down the lower rod a bit and it really fits snug with no wobble at all. Some people have commented on how cheap the lower shaft is. Let me tell you this thing is tough as nails. I don't know what kind of plastic it is but it defies a sharp file. I have more confidence in it now. The ACE 250 control housing is actually quite heavy for such a small device. I am not sure if this improved the balance at all over the stock shaft but I had to try it. The arm cuff/ rest assembly had to be enlarged a bit to accept the 7/8" shaft. I borrowed part of the S shaft to mount the control housing. This was bonded to a cut down bicycle handle bar accessory which fit the shaft perfectly. For now I have only drilled one hole for the lower rod locking spring. This suites my length requirement. Tell me what you think.

The position of the control housing and handle is now adjustable both up and down the shaft as well as angle relative to the coil and cuff. This is easily accomplished with an allen wrench adjustment. I have adjusted the proper length from the cuff to the grip. Also, I am right handed and have adjusted the grip/ control housing in a slight can't towards my body; maybe 5 degrees off top dead center. This has produced a superior swing for me with the coil absolutely level with the ground. This is do to the natural posture of my right forearm and hand wanting to tilt the detector to the left a bit. With the standard S shaft I found my forearm could get a cramp after a time from forcing the coil to swing level in a slightly unnatural posture. This detector is relatively light so it was not a weight issue for me. The comfort level has improved quite a bit. I was getting used swinging a Minelab Sovereign which has built up my forearm stamina as the Sovereign is quite heavy comparatively. I had also canted the handle on my sovereign shaft in the same manner. With the slight cant in the control housing it is now easier to see the panel face and target ID information.
