AJ,yep, thats the XR3i,that was the 'Boy racer' car too be seen in at the time, the Escort van that you have a picture of,could be made into a very nice 'passion wagon'. :) Still my favourite was the Mk1 Escort as in the external link with the yellow version, they command a huge amount of money these days mainly due too the Ford rally/race circuit heritage.

Sorry to the opening poster for hijacking the thread.

yeah the yellow one the ex girl friend had told her to buy it back in the day bet she wishes she kept it :lmfao: I am a Holden man have been for a long time but owned a few fords when I was younger

shagan wagon  had a sticker if this vans a rocken don't botha knockin pretty wild times the 70's I was young but all grown up :buds: didn't get my wagon till in the late 80's wish I still had that too.

yeah same sticker on the Holden sandman Steve used to see them everywhere now it would be a stop and stare they don't make those panel vans anymore real shame !! plus the sandman is/was a Holden :clapping:

gee my car is 18 years old how fast time goes by had it for like 15 years VS commodore station wagon pretty much bullet proof my last 4 cars have been Holden station wagons , this thing just keeps going sure I have to maintain it but Holden's rule the top of the mountain my fav Holden is the LJ Torana who would have thought this car was made in 1973 and kicked the ford 351 shakers butt at Bathurst.

just that one nice find and this orange beauty is mine and it will have to be a nice find .

and who said storing detectors in cars was bad

Since we're now on a car thread, here are three of my favorites, all of which I still have. Yes, I like my Fords. ^_^
I put detectors in them for traveling to where I want to play, but it gets hot here. I wouldn't leave a detector (or camera, guns, etc.) in the car for long.

Thanks. The A did cost me more than $20 though. It was restored by previous owner, a few years ago. He put it out at his yard sale, with a "for sale" sign... We made a deal as soon as I saw it. That pic was taken the same day, for sale sign still in the window.
Seems it wasn't that long ago, a running A was just a couple hundred. My A just cruises locally, fetching mail, going detecting, target shooting and fishing. Not what I want for longer trips... ^_^

Wow this topic went way off track in my absence.
Nice to see the reminiscing about the cars though.
I got my answers, so to harm no foul.
Cool cars gents

i read that the extreme heat could crack the epoxy in the coil is the problem with keeping them inside a car. dont think it is an electronics issue, its a coil issue.

It will get too hot if you store them inside the car but I've never had any trouble keeping them in the trunk

I wouldn't keep it in extreme heat for any period of time.

Besides possible battery leakage or even explosion if it gets hot enough, I would be concerned about distortion of the windings in the coil. I remember reading somewhere that DD coils are more temperature sensitive than concentric.

But that's just hearsay. Dave, if you're still sniffing about, I'd love to hear your expert opinion on whether heat can damage coils.

Apparently there's not any heat in the trunk. I've had my t-2 with the dd coil for several years and the only time it comes out of the trunk is when I use it

I've heard the opposite. That in the trunk there's no air circulation so it actually can get hotter than the cab with the windows down.
But if you've had one in for years in there and it's still working... sounds like it makes sense.

Direct sunlight through glass into a cab will get alot hotter than in the boot of the car, also the other added bonus it will be alot safer as well, out of sight out of mind.I always carry 3-4 detectors with me when i go out detecting and they always travel in the boot, but i never keep any of them in the car all the time just incase some 'smack head' needs a fix.

In the UK we very rarely get ultra hot days anyway, but i guess if you are out in the desert area then temperatures could and can climb pretty high.

What great comments! I'm probably doing it wrong but I keep 1 or 2 detectors in my SUV and pickup covered with a light tan heavy cloth. Same color as the upholstery. For years I've been using Ventshades on the windows, lowered about 2" each. From the outside no one can tell they are lowered a little. Hot air rises then pushes out the window. It still gets awful hot though, here in S.E. Georgia. I live on a farm so keep a few weapons in each. Wild hogs, coyotes, a few stray dogs in packs and the ever present rattlesnakes. Sub. change: first car was a '50 Ford 2 door with a flathead at a screaming 85hp. Next was a '56 Chevy convertible, red and white, with "Power Pac" what ever that was.. Then bought a new '60 Volks. beetle with 36 romping, h.p. Crossing the Rockies I thought I would have to shoot it to put it out of its misery. It made a weird, gasping noise. The single draft carb had an opening about the size of a silver dollar. Strange that it had a sun roof and no fuel gauge. Next was a new '66 Pontiac GTO with 4 in the floor and a (3) 2 barrel carb, supposed rated at 365 hp. Any way, so much for memories. Thanks for looking. And yes I am older than dirt but still vertical and detect as much as possible (43 yrs)
