Stolen Excal 1000 Recovery Help

Hi Everyone,
I have already posted my dilemma on the Excalibur section of this forum but at the advice of someone else, I will also post my problem here with the hope of finding more help. My dilemma is as follows:

I have been detecting for about a year now and have been following this site closely the entire time for all your information. This weekend (my birthday) i was robbed and one of the many items stolen was my Excal 1000. I was robbed in West Palm Beach, Florida and would appreciate any of you out there giving me any information if you happen to see my Excal on the beach. Insurance wont cover theft of it so im on my own to find it. Mine had a lot of parts on it that would make it easily identifiable, including an aftermarket black shaft that has a cut in the center with a piece of wood inside so that i can break it down to travel. i also have a knob guard on it that is silver. the unit looks brand new and i would recognize it from a great distance. I would very very much appreciate if you all down there could keep you eyes open for my machine as im sure it will be up for sale sometime soon or it will be seen on a local beach soon. I will keep my eyes open but i will be offering a reward to anyone who either locates the machine or anyone that is able/willing to call the local police in case this machine is seen somewhere. I appreciate any/all your help and i hope to be able to recover my favorite toy sometime soon. Thank you all. Marc

MHirschmann that sucks! I will be heading down to Florida mid March probably mostly on the East coast beech hunting so I will keep an eye open for

it. Again sorry for the loss. Hope the cops can find the S.O.B. that robbed you soon. If I were you, I'd be keeping an eye out on ebay

and www.cragslist.org for the next couple months. Hell even the pawn stores as well....Just a thought, hope it helps.

I live in West Palm Beach, and will try take a closer look at any Excals I see. If you want to send me your phone number by PM, I'll call you if I see one that could be yours.
Dave

Hey MH,
Sorry to hear about your machine. I assume that you called your local police or sheriffe dept. and let them know about the theft and hopefully the pawn shops down there are like the ones up here when they get something like that in the run the serial # if they do it'll come stolen and you will get a call from police dept but just to give them a heads up call or go and visit the pawn shops and if you have a photo of your machine make copies and leave them and the serial # with them. my brother had this happen with a gps stolen out of his car the theif tried to pawn it and the cops got ahold of him instead. I hope this helps. A public disfigureation when start deturing theft in my book.

Hi guys, and once again thank you so much for your replies. I appreciate all your help. i have been checking craigslist, ebay and any other site that i can find down south for selling items but have not found a single stolen item yet. im sure the thieves will wait a bit to get some heat off those items before moving them but being as stubborn as i am finally came in handy as i dont mind looking for my things whenever i get the chance. i dont know how to PM Dave so i cant send you my phone number. i have submitted a police report with the serial number on it so hopefully that will help with locating it. problem is, the detective handling my case seems like he couldnt possibly care any less about what happened to me, seems he has bigger fish to fry. i have been trying to even get a hold of him for the past few days and have not had a call back yet. i will continue to investigate myself as i feel this is the only way that i might find my things again. I have also contacted all the metal detecting clubs in south florida but i have not found anyone that has seen my machine yet. as i stated in an earlier post, anyone looking for it would recognize it from a mile away. mine was so personalized that it sticks out like a sore thumb from other excals when you look at it. i just hope to see someone on a local beach with it sometime soon. i apologize in advance if i come up to someone using it and demand getting it back, as im sure that guy/or lady i catch it with wont be the one that stole it from me. i will keep you all updated on what happens and i thank you for your continued help with my troubles. Marc

Good luck with the cops. You have a lot better chance finding it yourself. If they find it you might still not get it back for a long time.My friend had a break in and then found his kids bike in the cops actuion a year later evan with the serial number still on the bike!

Look up the serial number and give it to the police/sheriff so they can send out a flyer to pawn shops. I would also send Minelab an email with the serial number in case it's sent for repair.

Were you 'robbed' like with force at gunpoint or was it stolen from your car or home? Approaching someone who is violent enough to rob is a bit different than approaching someone who is a thief. They both are pukes but the potential 'reporter', who see the unit might be more careful if it was an actual robbery. That's like it was taken from you personally with a weapon or threat of some kind of realistic force. Jim

Hi Guys and thanks for your responses once again. In reply to Grumpyolman, the guys that robbed us didnt attack us or confront us in any way. He snuck in while we were sleeping and too what he was interested in (our expensive things) and then he left. He's a sneaky loser, not an aggressive one. I have not mind any progress here. i have contacted every single pawn shop with several counties and i have turned up nothing. The detective is still being lazy and still has not returned my calls (for the past 5 days now). Craigslist and Ebay are still dead ends. I know its still early, and i am not giving up hope, but i think its going to take a miracle to find my things. Hey, luckily my biggest worries right now are just "things." I hope you are all having luck with your finds out there and i look forward to hopefully bring you some good news. Marc PS i want to thank the Gold COast Treasure Club of West Palm Beach for their help and support. I can not thank you enough for your willingness to help a complete stranger.

Go to the police station and ask to see the police blotter. It's public record so they have to show it to you. Look back over the last two or three months or more and see if there has been a bunch of similar crimes. If so, map them out on a map and more than likely the guy is living somehwere right in the center of that area. Now head up to the local bars in that area and kind'a ask around if they know anybody who can get you certain things cheap. Try to mention one or two items that he's stolen but aren't going to sound too obvious, like a chainsaw or a TV or something. A little digging and I bet you'll find this guy. He's more than likely a drug addict and is stealing stuff so he can buy more crack or whatever. Also keep watching Craig's List, Ebay, and the local Pawn Shops or Flea Markets.
