State Parks could have good potential for silver coins.

Wow.looks like that Minelab works well.and that looks like a nice set-up you have..Is that a straight rod???

The Sovereign with a straight rod is the only way to use one of these.I'm using a 10 inch Tornado and have found that the depth on this coil is excellent.

Hi Ron,

Like that badge! How did you clean it up that nice? I've got a few buckles that I'd like to clean up.

Regards and HH Joe

Joe, I have worked overtime at GM this week, and didn't have enough time to return the badge..Hopefully next week I'll return it to the park office.

After reading all these great posts..they ( who ever) just does not want us detecting.

I would like to state that we as a whole could change that..But even the Metal Detectorists federation can not get it changed.

I still wonder. If our Senators started getting lots of mail from each of us on the subject of metal detecting what would it do.
Just imagine !!! I am not really political but we sure could become a pain. Whats your thoughts ??

First of all most medal detector user's are law biding tax payer's that contribute more than their fair share to their communities in many different ways.Public perception, a guy metal detecting in the park is loitering and is a bum.Bottom line your tax dollars pay for these parks and you have the right to use the park also.I was asked by a wise guy the other day who laughed and said like he was talking to a 10 year old kid"did you find any buried treasure?"My answer," not yet,but its nice to enjoy the park after a long day at work".Later he gives me a puzzled look as I load my gear up in the Hummer and drive away.(Priceless)

What a great response...........Bet that set him back a little.

You are correct the perception does need a change.I try every chance I get to explain what I am doing when detecting and state it's a hobby.
Most people think we are nuts..But lately their opinion is changing thanks mostly too the Tv shows and things that give a good image to detecting.

We should be allowed in the parks..as long as no damage is done ....

I agree don't over dig in a park.Park hunter's should not use shovels and be careful when digging.

upon reflection,i am incorrect!..i remember that in 1978,i got into kingston state park in kingston nh!..at the time,i was amazed and astounded that no one bothered me,and i went back to detect that fall, must have been at least 25 times!..i literally found the world there!..silve r out the kazoo!..everywhere i hunted i hit it barbers, mercs, chiefs, and even a couple of large cents!..what happened was i found out the park ranger responsible for the park had just recently "passed away"
AND they hadn't replaced him yet sounds like a story,i know, but i swear it is the truth!..as i mentioned after the approx the 25 th visit,i was approached by the "new"
park ranger, and was told in no uncertain terms, that if i showed up again with the detector to dig,it would be confiscated, and i would be arrested on the spot!..apparently up until the time the first ranger "passed"..NO ONE had detected THAT park before,as told to me by the ranger that tossed me!..this is true!
(hot damn!)..how did i get so lucky?..i guess i was just in the right place at the right time!..pulled a '"ton" of silver out of there!..did my best to clean it out.realizing how lucky i was!..there's still some left!..(btw!)..i went there in the fall,AFTER the park closed, and someone told me that the ranger that "passed" lived in the house on the corner of the park near the admission gate!..no wonder no one got in there over the years!..these ARE the facts as i relate them to you!..no (b.s!)

i apologize for being negative, however my feeling is the image of someone digging in a state park along side of people picknicing, swimming, and playing sports
is odd by MOST people's standards!..the truth is,they will feel uncomfortable with a detectorist around, especially if you have ANY kind of blunted digging tool,or knife!..this in MY opinion is a result of the society we now live in!

I would think most detectorists would use common sense and detect in parts not used for the moment..........In fact I prefer the not so congested areas.
If you created a problem for others you should be removed. Hey thats just my take. Not being argumentitive.just saying how I view it.....You may well be correct
and I am sure some people would show no consideration for others.Could be somewhere in the past thats why we are limited..Who Knows

Try to blend in and not to disturb the people in the park.Don't dress like or act like a homeless person. Some one wants to ask me about what I'm looking for?I'll explain I'm there for the same reason they are to enjoy the park and that metal detecting is like fishing.I don't slither in the shadows to conceal myself or metal detect in the way of their activities I'm just like them there to relax and enjoy the outdoors.I don't pursue ghost target to extreme depths.I am thankful for the parks that are open in Michigan and realize these could be closed by hunters who break the park rules or have a strip mine digging mentality.Bottom line it won't be easy but we have to stand up to the public and demand that our fellow hunter stick to the treasure hunter's code of conduct.

apparently my post has been misunderstood!..you state the obvious!..i am already aware of everything you said, however perhaps people's perception of detectorists vary from state to state!..i made an honest mistake by NOT pointing out that the attitude i mentioned is applicable to state parks HERE where I live!.(new england!)
the attitude i mentioned may not be prevalent in other areas of the country!..(btw!)..may i also mention that i have never upset anyone while metal detecting, and ALWAYS project a friendly image, and NEVER look like a homeless person!

Reading your previous post would lead me to believe that you're one of the metal detecting enthusiast who has the integrity and determination to point out our flaws in this hobby to make it better.

Jaymart:
I don't think anyone misunderstood your post..Your one of the good guys and it's easy seeing it. You care and make good points on how it can be better.....
More people like you and we would not be banned anywhere.
