Squashing rumors!

Hello fellow hunters and gurus,

It's been awhile, I know. No, I'm not dead. No I haven't been fired or moved to Whites or Garrett. And no I'm not a rotting pile of bones on some lost and forgotten beach. I'm still here. I was promoted to Chief of Operations, and Reid Schilling (TesoroDude) has taken over all the forums for the company. Although I do appreciate the concern, if you can call it that, I will. I will still be presenting this forum with any kind of news and updates as they are released to me. The first answer is of course the Golden UMax. After some issues with component vendors I will not list by name. These issues centered around the Programmable Interconnected Circuit, or PIC for short. This is the component that controls the audio portion of the signal and creates the tones. After this debacle we then tried to improve the programming for the tones. This is when we presented the tone change listed on the Golden UMax webpage. We are still currently in development of the further enhanced programming to find a solution the Golden UMax programming problem. Two, Tesoro Electronics does not, I repeat, does not present this industry with a new unit every six months for the reason most of you understand already. Most new metal detectors are just that a mocked up previous version of the same machines. New knob here, new color for the screen there, with no real change in behavior or operational status. We tell our customers, dealers, and distributors to please be very weary of the "Next Great Thing" to hit the market. That said, we feel it is much more important to present the same great quality, and the only True Lifetime Warranty in the industry. We will not quit on our customers, or say no to service, or leave you guy's hanging.

Greetings TesoroMD... glad you are still kicking.

These days when folks are used to having purchased a new phone, Ipod, gadgetroo or whatever and having it super ceded and out of date within 2 weeks with the latest and greatest new "whizbang" they are just like a bunch of whiney kids looking for their next technological fix.

Some have no recollection of any other type of industrial world/Madison Avenue.

Tesoro has been Tesoro throughout these techno storms and continues to be a tried and true brand.

While I used brand X for a few years, even when living within 5 miles of the Tesoro facility... there's some irony for ya...I would get weary of brand X trying to impress upon me that my outdated brand X model (merely 8 months old) was so archaic that I would have to give it up unless I "upgraded" immediately. After 3 of their newest and greatest models and nothing really new but bells and whistles... I just quit for a while. Got tired of all the Madison Avenue marketing... remember the old Wendy's commercial...? Where's the beef!!

Glad you are doing well and will look forward to updates on the Golden project. It is one of the models I am looking at to re-enter the detector world.

Thanks for the updates Nathan! Not sure which companies come out with a new model every 6 months, I know many popular Garrett Fisher and Minelab units that at least that have a 4-5 year run before they update the models. Speaking of updating models, how about a Compadre with coil switching ability? I know a lot of us here would love that!

We will not quit on Tesoro either !!!

Regarding the tones. I have a Golden on the way. What problems can I expect, and try to compensate for? I know Tesoro will get it straightened out on time.

Best I can recollect I bought the 9th Golden produced with the the new tones if the serial number was to be believed. I loved it. I liked the way it was setup, allthough the two low tones were a little close together and when I got fatiqued I struggled with them. But I still loved it. I'd be happy if you would just replicate that one. That one lived up to its name.

Thats great news about the Golden. Mine is already at Tesoro awaiting the tone upgrade and cant wait to get back to using it.
One other option I would really like , and would gladly pay for, is the option of having ground balance fitted at factory. The golden is a fun detector to use, and this would just be the icing on the cake

I think people need to spend more time outside detecting!
I got my Outlook last autumn, and quickly had to hang things up as winter came early here.
I spent the winter reading about detectors, wondering if the Outlaw was the right choice or indeed if Tesoro was the right choice. Well, Spring and Summer 2013 came (eventually) and this is the first time I've had a chance to checkout the forums (since the end of march). I love my MD and spend every spare moment I get, swinging the darn thing. Just awesome.

No need to wait for cool technology. It's here.

Thanks for the post Nathan, in my opinion you's don't need to come out with a new detector every 6 months or so. Tesoro already has a model for any type of hunting we do. No need to fix what isn't broke comes to mind, not only do your detectors work well they also are the most fun to use which I feel is the most important bell & whistle. Whatever you good folks are doing at the factory keep doing it as your doing it right.

 Before I went with Tesoros, I spent the majority of my metal detecting life with another brand. I decided to drop the other brand when they started discontinuing models sometimes even before I got used to them! Then , when I needed parts, I couldn't get them from the company but had to order from a so-called " regional supply house". They aslo started turning down repairs, saying " Oh, we don't have parts for something that old". Garrett has a buy back program on old metal detectors. That's a great idea. They can salvage parts from the trade-ins. My Golden Umax just came back from Tesoro service and it's running great. I like Tesoro just the way it is without ANY major changes. JMHO.:detecting::tesoro:

Has it been that long since Minelab updated their Xterra models 30,50, & 70 with a new color and relabled to 305,505,& 705? Whew! time flies when you're havin' fun!:goodnight:

Only trouble is, it doesn't sound like the Golden is going back into production soon.

Man, I feel like such an idiot for selling mine!

Actually they did make changes to the lineup such as more GB adjustability, ground tracking, and other features. The X-Terra 30 was released in 2005 and the X-Terra 305 was released in 2009.

My NEW TONE Golden

I think there's still some new original tone goldens out there in the supply chain if you look around.
I'm hopeful Tesoro will still convert them to the new tones when things get sorted out.
That may be the way to go if you just gotta have one,
As I do!

BUT

I had both 'new' and 'old' tone versions at the same time.

The 'new' tone version from the factory (not a high tone change conversion) seemed to be quite a bit deeper than my 'old' tone version.

It could be that the 'new' tone version was newer and more in tune. Maybe I could just hear the tones better.

Or it could be that the 'new' tone version from the factory has some added kick that doesn't come from having a tone change.

I don't know. At any rate, the 'new' tone version from the factory is the cat's meow as far as I'm concerned.

I had the X-Terra 30. About a month after purchasing it, the 305 came out. I guess I got in at the tail end of the run. I wasn't excited at all about the changes. With that said, I had a reality check with the Whites V3i (may have the model designation wrong-it's late!). I've been chasing "tech" since the 70's with Whites. I still think they are very good machines. However, one day I was out with my Whites V3i and my neighbor and his duct taped Amigo 2. It hit me that he was having fun while I was wrapped up in deciphering my cool multi-colored screen. I realized my "fun factor" hit a new low. That's when I moved into the Tesoro line.
I contend that when a company can produce a detector that can discriminate a rotted tin can lid and a half dollar, that will be new technology.
They may have tweeked the X-terra line but it is not new technology. All they did is move some of the electronics configuration from their detector line up into the X-Terra line and jacked the price up.
