Splitting Hairs On Ring VDI Numbers

Interesting post.

Here is the respective thread started in the Etrac forum. The discrimination pattern has been uploaded, while the spreadsheet might take me a day or two to post...

As noted in that thread, the pattern developed was using the medium cursor size. One could easily enter the pattern manually once the numbers of VDI range are posted in the spreadsheet. It might prove more useful to manualy enter the VDI range and use the smallest cursor size, as this should reject more trash while still allowing all the rings to be accepted. On the other hand, if you do use the medium cursor pattern I would at least learn/reject the tabs as discussed above at a specific site by using the smallest cursor pattern, thus rejecting the tabs while still allowing the most rings to still be detected.

Here's the spreadsheet of the rings scanned on the Etrac. As you can see, the total range in VDI was from 12-02 to 12-43. I would manually edit a completely black discrimination pattern using the smallest cursor and then open up that range in VDI. Once at a site, learn/reject any tabs you dig also using the smallest cursor. This should greatly eliminate the vast majority of trash while still allowing you a good chance at recovering most of the rings. More info in the thread linked to in the Etrac forum.

Sorry, I just wanted to link this massive thread to a new one with condensed and more to the point results...
