Spectra V3 EMI Note and Question

Gary Walters

New member
I just purchased a V3 about a week ago. I haven't really used it yet but did take it out in my backyard to test it out. Well, it turns out that I have some power lines close by and the
V3 behaved erractically. I finally decided that it had to do with the magnetic fields coming off of the power lines.

I called White's and talked to Todd. He said that you could turn the Rx gain down. I haven't tried that yet. I didn't think about asking Todd if by turning the Rx gain down if
that affected the detecting depth. Does anybody know if that's the case? Isn't the Rx gain for the received detecting signal or is it for the wireless headset reception?

I'm fairly new to detecting. Hope someone can clarify for me.

Thanks!
Gary

I think you will find that you have to turn the gain down to use most of the programs .I have already hunted wilth a gain of 1 and still found stuff. I hunt with HI pro program with gain at 4 and been digging coins and buttons at 4-8 inches no problem.

I found the wireless headphones the root of all my EMI issues. using standard wired phones now and have no EMI issues since !!!!

Hello Gary.

Turning your Rx gain down will under normal circumstances reduces your depth performance.

Second point. You spoke to Whites....Didn't they suggest adjusting the 'frequency' of your V3, to try and move 'off tune' from local interference?

Go to the Frequency tab in your LIVE CONTROLS, at the bottom of the display.

Locate the 'OFFSET' adjustment...navigate to it using the left or right arrows.

Try altering the setting with the up and down arrows, whilst listening or observing any reduction in interference.

I hope that helps.......TheMarshall

Thanks! I did talk to Todd about altering the freq. He did say that that's one possible solution. That
might be the solution that I'll use for EMI problems.

My main concern was the second possible solution, altering or reducing the Rx gain.
I didn't want to compromise my detecting depth. It appears, from the comments, so far, that
it doesn't affect it much.
I'll experiment with "wired" headphones, also.
Thanks for everyone that has made suggestions.
I think this is going to be a great hobby.
Gary

I've found that in my test garden gain adjustments can and will affect depth. But better to hunt an area with lower gain than not to hunt it at all.

After you ground balance Lock it That will help also Then every 15 min. recheck balance then Relock it !
