When you go to change the pitch of the tones on either the CTX 3030 or through XChange2, it becomes pretty obvious you can only change the lower and upper most limits of CO 50 tone. I find spreading the tones from 75 to1200 is about as close to Variable tones (on the E-TRAC) as you'll get with the CTX 3030.

There has been some discussion as to having one tone for each target ID. 1750 different TID possibilities = 1750 different tones. I can't imagine anyone's hearing being able to sort out and identify even 5% of that many tones. JMHO HH Randy

I dont think anybody wants 1750 tones... I just want the ability to assign 1 of even 3 or 4 tones in any of the the 1750 positions ... wildherre

I hear ya! When the CTX was in the development phase, one of the things I hoped would evolve was assignable tones. Even though it didn't get to that point, I think you have to admit that being able to break out 4 CO and 1 FE in Combined was a huge step in the right direction. With that said, being able to double that (8 CO X 2 FE) would serve many of our needs quite well. HH Randy

Reading this thread made me less confident in both combined and 50CO. I think the simplest way to understand the two is to give examples of when you would use one over the other. I know personal preference comes into play, but people still prefer one or the other for a certain advantage. I'd like to know what that is.

I love combined but I too would love the addition of two or three more bins. I just feel like 50 tones is too many and that creats too much tone blending and fluttering/waffling sounds. I prefer the beeeeep of a single tone as opposed to the bleeblebluplebleeblebleeep.

It should be simple to create a custom option where the user could choose the number of bins just like choosing the size of the accept and discriminate cursors.
