Something right or wrong?

I was hunting sled run in the park, and found the silvers pictured above. Now we have hunted this area to death over the past several years, at first we were finding some silver but the last couple of years no silvers have come out of the ground.

So this time I using the x5" coil and get this high tone squeal and the depth scale was maxed out. I was thinking iron falsing, but decided to dig, down about 7" was the silver quarter. The other 3 silvers all sounded the same and were also about 7" down. Now I am think I am on to something.

Next trip to the same location thinking rerun, but all targets this day were iron.

What do you guys think, on to something or just luck?

My thoughts on this scenario is the silver coins and the iron are combining together to get this reaction. If you took the silver coins out of the picture it would just give you low iron reading, if you took the iron out of the picture you would get a nice clear high tone silver sound.

Ask yourself was the soil conditions the same as before ? Meaning was the ground wet the first time of dry , as this will change things up for signals in the ground depth .

roadapple, the soil was the same cold and wet. The iron was the very next day after the silver, the conditions were about as close as they could get.

I have had similar days with my Ctx in a old park I hunt. I have come to the conclusion it’s some type of emi and the noise cancel channel.....

One day you can’t miss. The next day it’s impossible to find anything. Like Wyo said,I’ve chalked it up to environmentals such as EMI. ALSO....it’s easy to start trying to make everything into a coin signal,the discipline HAS to be there to use the basics and be willing to walk away if those basics don’t say it’s a coin. The X5 is as accurate as it gets. Check your numbers! If they are 49 or 50 and it’s really “Squeally” sounding...iron. Dig all 40-48 CO as long as the FE number doesn’t go over 26-27. It’s not too often the FE number is that high but it CAN be...I don’t see it too often with the CTX though.

He said,while pointing to the little beaten to death coil...”Now THAT is a great coil!” I thought to myself,”Yeah,sure buddy,I know it’s just an extra item...”. It was an older Detech 5” Excelerator with a broken ear and the body of it was cracked too. That coil absolutely BLEW my mind with how accurate it was in very heavy trash,and the depth that it could achieve on a rotten corroded wheat penny was nothing short of absurd. Sadly,it ingested some water one day so I wound up getting an X-5 to replace it, another fabulous coil! IF a person has the patience, I love tiny coils and the things they can do!

I agree with IDXMonster on using small coils. I only use a Detech 6"x8" coil on my E-TRAC now, unless I'm working a beach. Was wondering if you set-up your E-TRAC with "High Trash Density" and "Difficult" Ground? I get great target separation when an old coin is next to iron with these settings and I have been digging every deep signal since you never know because the deeper coins always have some mineralized soil between them and the surface which causes the Ferrous number to go well above the expected "12".

I got to be pretty decent with my Explorer II back in the day. Had a lot of help from Mike Moltray in the club I was in. Anyway, I was out hunting a 200 year old park in St. Louis with a guy that belonged to the MD club with me. We were hunting a old picnic area and the only coil I had at the time was the standard coil. I was hearing that trash beeping in my ear that night all night long. This guy switched to a Detech Excelerator 5" coil and he began to pull half a dozen Mercuries, Barber dimes and a seated dime out of the ground pretty deep. Guess what the first thing I did when I got home that day?

For me It took some patience and adjustment switching from a big coil to an itty bitty little tiny thing. Slowed my sweeps way down and listened intently, and pop goes the silver... Hi Ho Silver, away we go...

Set to a specific channel Kevin.----I set mine on chnl. 8 (on my Etrac) with that coil & get the best response.

Tony----That's the only coil that I've had to do that (with the FBS detectors).-----There was discussion some years back about others having to do that also with that coil & on FBS detectors.----It's a good/effective coil though.-----If you have one, try different noise cancel channels & let me know what you think.--------Del
