Thanks for that info. And are they the right size? These switch size categories get me confused. Mini Toggles, SubMini Toggles, and so on. Is that part # going to be the right size for them? I need to check and make sure the toggle I used for my remote pinpoint is the same size otherwise I'll need to order a different one for that too. That's on my "to do" list to get ready for spring. Got a bunch of odds and ends to take care of.

Yea, so I would guess that part # is the right size then? By the way, good idea using the rubber band to keep the dials from moving.

Just ran that part # through mouser and they are like $3.60 or so a piece. Soon as you can confirm that's the part # he put on I think I'll order them. If you can ask him what size will fit a submini toggle too. I guess it all comes down to the nut thread size and nothing else, but I've never played with booted switches before. I need to look and see if my remote switch is the same diameter.

I see they only have them in black or grey. I'd probably prefer red if anybody knew where to get those in the US?

Unless they went up in price they can be ordered from Sun Ray or any Sun Ray dealer for less than $3.60 each. The Mini toggle switch I have use these boots fit them. Radio Shack makes some boots too, but they only seem to work on their toggle switches.

I couldn't find any boots at Radio Shack but maybe I missed them in the store, unless you are talking about ordering online? Do Sunray dealers have them in red? I think that color would look best and be a little easier to see the position of under lower light conditions.

The only ones I have seen that fit are the black ones. Those that i got at Radio Shack were in a pack of 2 with one red and one black , these were the full boot and not the half boot that Sun Ray has and uses. I think I still have a set from Radio Shack and never found a switch they fit on yet. I got these about 10 years ago and since they dont stock much electronic parts like they did before.

Those half boots are cool. I guess it would still seal the switch from dirt. I think I'm going to try to find some boots in red on the net. If I dig up a link I'll post it.

They are very tight around the switch and with it being a half boot you don't have to worry about a full toggle boot ripping.

That's a good point. Think I'll call Dixie to order them if I can't find any red half boots then. I just think red would look so much better on the face plate to me.

Well, I've searched the net and can't find red in that size in either a half boot or a full boot, so it looks like I'm off to order the black half boots from Sunray or one of their dealers.

This is getting to be an excercise in frustration. I did some searching on google for "Sun Ray Half Boot" and various other ways to put it but could only find one dealer online listing them, Dixie Detectors. By the way, I only found that site because you said you got yours there. They need to do better linking their website to google because every time I tried to search for Dixie Detectors I kept getting those web sites that list a bunch of products with similar search words but no actual link. You know what I mean, those sites that try to sell you anything related to the search words you just put in and always are asking more than you can get it directly since they make their profit by just being a search engine. Put in Dixie Detectors and you'll get a bunch of garbage in general on anything related to metal detectors for sale.

Anyway, I finally found their site by digging deep and here's the link...

They want $20 for five switches and another $5 to ship it. That seems a little expensive to me when you consider those things could probably be thrown in a regular envolope to mail out. At $20 for five that's $4 a piece or $5 a piece if you include shipping. Does anybody know where I can find these half boots cheaper? I went on Sun Ray's website and used their dealer map to find one within 20 miles of me. Tried calling but got a machine. Does anybody know if a Sun Ray Dealer will order these boots for you if they don't have them in stock? That way I could just drive out there and pick them up saving the shipping I hope.

Also, I could not find any mention of the performance tune up they do for a Sovereign to give it slightly more depth. This is the place, right?

Did some more digging into old Sovereign threads and found this info part # at Mouser that differ from the one above. Not sure if they even carry this

Believe me i looked everywhere and talked to a few people about these toggle boots and finally said to myself, that's enough wasted time and just bought them from Dixie. I agree with not being able to find the site that easy but now its in the favorites. As far as price most if the company's i talked to the only way i could get the price down was to order more then hundred and even then they were still around $4.00 each.........

You're probably right and sound just like me- that this is like going on a wild goose chase. The problem I've found is that these boots are listed in some very different and curious ways from one site to the other. That makes it almost impossible to figure out which size fits what. I've got one more option- There is a big electronics surplus store in a city within 20 miles of me. I think I'll take my GT down there so I can try any boots they might have to see if they fit my switches. That's a good idea anyway because I need one for my remote pinpoint but haven't looked yet to see if it's nut shaft diameter is the same as the stock switches.

Oh, and one other place to try- I hear local boat supply stores often carry switch boots. I still can't get ahold of that local Sunray dealer but if all else fails I need to at least talk to them first before having to order somewhere else. It might save me shipping if I can pick them up there.

Don't waste your time going to boat shops, i have been in the marine business for many years they don't have toggle boots that small........

Thanks for the tip. I'm heading off today to the electronics supply store. I always wanted to look around in that place anyway because I hear it's a huge warehouse with everything you can dream of. I still can't get ahold of the local Sunray dealer even after leaving a few messages to call me back. Seems they run that as a side business or something since nobody is ever there when I call at different hours of the day.

If all else fails then I'll order them from Dixie since I hear they always stock them. It just bugs me though to have to pay $25 total shipped for five pieces of rubber.
