Some ideas for a meter

Ron,

Interesting idea - I know they are coming up with glasses that display computer information, and you can see through that information to the external world. But it looks like you have a good handle on making seeing a meter much easier on the neck. Whatever you come up with as a result - I will be interested in checking out.

By the way, the meter I got from you most recently - I like the slide switch on the front as opposed to the toggle switch on the back. I've not had the meter turn on accidentally as a result.

Hey Ron what a great new idea !!! with today's military heads-up displays micro tac. LED,s you hit on a good idea for metal detecting , I've seen OP,s use mini displays in front of there night vision goggles the possibility's are endless , a 3 in 1 set-up head phones with a mini LED target indicator attached to night vison goggles ? :detecting: let us know when you get such a devise perfected ill be interested  Jim

Ron, looks pretty interesting. I would be all over that!

With a headset like deepdigger posted, just make induction coils that fit your feet, and it will all be hands free MDing!! Just walk and :wiggle: see the numbers, hear the sounds.

Looks like a great idea...I wonder about eye fatigue though. I know I look at the ground and then my meter, back and forth as we probably all do (of those of us who use meters) I wonder how far you would need to keep the display from your eye(s) to cut down on their need to re-focus from super-close to a few feet away. I do really like this idea...if this were wireless it would be awesome. Wireless (without all the cable tangles) seems to be the future. Anyway...awesome concept Ron!

Super idea Ron. I believe you are on the right track. - Jim

I'm excited !!! more gadgets. Looks great Ron

Tim,most without using the meter wanted a on off toggle switch. In the field the slide on off switch works better. You confirmed this was a better choice. The headphone meter mount is a good idea and trying to figure out and fix the problems. If the weather holds up will try to get some field time on the headphone meter. Thanks Ron

Jim, that headsup display unit looks complicated,LOL wood like to have one anyway, very cool. Thanks Ron

Ronnie, more gadget's,lol no other detector will have a headsup screen the Sovereign will be the first Star war class unit. Thanks Ron

Mike, great idea, wireless phones would be great, but this is going to be simple and inexpensive. The Sovereign could use wireless headphones, and a meter attached to these, one less cord. Thanks Ron

SovereignElite, eye fatigue could be lessen by putting a rim around the meter, kinda of like a blinder for a horse, this seems to work won't know until more field time.Routing wires will have to be worked out. Thanks Ron

Booty Hound PA I'll try and figure out the bugs, but agree a great concept. The Sovereign is one of a kind metal detector with or without a headsup meter. The headsup meter IMHO would trump wireless headphones. Thanks Ron

Ron, that is a killer idea! Very slick. A friend I fly electric RC with has taken our onboard camera use one step further. He built goggles with LCD screens in them so he can feel like he's looking out the plane, and even has it rigged so that if he turns his head left or right the onboard camera pans with his head like he's looking out the side windows, and even up or down control. I prefer to have a TV on the ground I can just glance at when lining up shots or such, because if I were to lose the video feed with goggles on I'd have no hopes of relocating the plane by the naked eye. With the TV I can quickly glance down at it and then back up to keep tabs on my plane.

Anyway, he's using an onboard plug in display module to overly various things on the video so he can monitor things as he flies. He's got GPS cordinates on screen and also the voltage level of the plane's lipo battery so he can head home (he flies miles away sometimes) before running out of battery power. I was thinking you could use one of these dongles to show the Sovereign target ID (voltage) on LCD glasses if you wanted so it would be wireless, but then again the way you have it rigged up is probably the way I'd want to go myself. That LCD VDI is cool, and you'd be able to hunt at night as that display glows the numbers by the looks of it.

Time and weather didn't permit a real field test.In my coin garden 117 silver dime 115 for Zinc, and 94 for nickle.Prototype did have interesting nickle readings.Helping Barry with his Musketeer headphone jack. Those nuts on these can be a pain to find.Suggestions appreciated.HH Ron
