Some comments on the F75 as a prospecting detector

Hi Dino,

I'm headed to Colchester in a year (October 2010) to hunt some of that Celtic gold. Never done it before but I'm looking at it as if it is a gold nugget hunt in a location that has lots of ferrous trash. So with that in mind I'm thinking of using the F75 and MXT. I'm more familiar with the MXT but I think the F75 may have the edge, once I get more experienced with it. I agree about the Lobo. It is a good detector but limited when compared to the F75. I have to admit I have a soft spot for it though as I have to like units that can be hip or chest mounted.

Nice finds!

I too love the Lobo, used one for 6 years and it wasn't until Troy came over to hunt with me and I got to use one of his X5's, that I realise the Lobo had become a thing of the past.

Tesoro would have been better to upgrade the ST instead of releasing the Tejon...which I also tried. (not for long :) )

I still use the Troy 50% of the time as it does hit hard on small gold and is easier to pinpoint. Although the F75 seems better in the trash.

The full Celtic gold staters are easier to find as they have 4 times the mass and measure about 18mm.

Good luck in Colchester.

Hi Dino,

that Lobo found me more of our V (or Liberty) nickels in the time I had it than all other machines since then combined. Sure it was a site specific thing but man it hit hard on the mid and low conductors. A great machine for its time!

I know I have said it before but, I never tire of looking at your finds.

Best wishes.. Tom

Jim - I was wondering who that "Snowman" was posting - seemed quite knowledgeable. My hot rocks usually read around 14. If I am in hot ground I dig most signals. Steve's comments on Moore Creek and the F75 and hot rocks are good - looks like a PI would still be best at Moore Creek. For your trip I would just take some time and experiment around with your ground and the hot rock masking. I would use less sensitivity on the F75 in larger size nugget areas and try to get away with as much sensitivity as possible in small gold areas. Although I have used a number of different detectors, I am now reduced by choice to the F75 due to its light weight and depth. I do not get out often enough to keep in practice with the other detectors and I also like the all around abilities of the F75. I am looking forward to hearing about you trip. Lance

Hi Tom, nice to hear from you again. Don't get me wrong that Lobo was a great machine, but after using it 6 years on the same sites I needed more punch that it could offer anymore.
