i've been using my new SE in an old farm field for the past few days. i also own two explorer 2's. i think im going to stick with my explorer 2. There is a good amount of iron in this field, but the SE seems to false like crazy. the exp 2 seems to be much more calm and level headed. so far i see no reason to switch from an exp 2 to an SE. as a matter of fact, my friend with his DFX swept over a target and swore it was silver. i swept over the same spot with the SE. got a messy, indiscernable signal. he dug... & it turned out to be a barber 1/2!! i hunt with no discrim. in ferrous tones. i've tried lowering the sens., with no luck. can anyone please offer any advice or should i just sell this thing b4 i break it into many pieces.
now that same merc. starts air testing almost a foot away....Yesterday I dug my first silver quarter with it at about 10"
...I know it was that deep because I dinged it with my little spade & noted the position on the handle...yes I know I need a pinpointer...I've found that in some places I can jack up the sensitivity full bore...& some places I gotta lower it...Right now I have the gain at 7 & haven't tried playing with that yet but SOON I will....Just relax & make a little test garden if you can, & take a couple days getting used to it....then after a hunt or two re-read the manual & hit the test garden again...You'll see that your first impression was way off the mark...Oh yeah.... I don't think anything is wrong with your detector...HH...TT
but they have allowed me to pluck two pieces of silver out in the two weeks I've had it...actually the two pieces have come on the last two outings with it...I'm gonna try switching to ferrous sounds next & also try fast off deep on & vise versa in my test bed...then go out & see how I do...I always keep the manual with me in case I want to make a change because I'm still not familiar enough with it to feel comfortable without it...Oh yeah, I usually run the smartscreen but with just a press of the button you can check the digital...I think it was Snowy who last mention the importance of the tone, as relateing to target ID...once you start homeing in on the good ones you'll understand....What I find great about this detector is the full spectrum of options it has....However it can seem overwhelming at times for a new user...Like I said, it isn't hard, it just takes time to learn & I for one am more than happy I made the decision to go this route...HH...TT
