SO YOU THINK THE SE IS BETTER THAN THE

Here's what happened--Every time I went detecting with my XLT, either at my local parks or at the beach, I found very few coins deeper than six inches. I thought this was normal until I started reading the forums (the one we are both on now). I was intrigued by what some of the Explorer users were saying, and after reading some of their posts, I contacted several of them, asked some questions, and was pleasantly surprised at their answers. They convinced me that I would DEFINATELY be better off with the Explorer. To make a long story short, one of the readers had one for sale, and I bought it. The difference between the two machines is, in my opinion, undeniable. I started pulling out silver coins in parks that were hunted relentlessly, and I was VERY successful. As far as the shore is concerned--as I stated previously, it is not unusual to find coins well over a foot deep--I NEVER even came close to this with my XLT. I sold my XLT and would not consider buying another--If there are other machines out there that are better than the Minelabs, you will have to prove it to me before I buy it! Until then, it's the Explorer XS that gets my vote!

From reading you posts, I suspect that you use the Explorer more than the CZ70. I have used a couple of other detectors that went as deep as the Explorer but I had trouble determining good target from trash when using them.

I have been using the Explorer exclusively until just recently. I was recently testing a CZ-3D that a friend sent to me and realized how much I missed using my CZ so I used it the last couple of times out. I like the Explorer and the CZ both very much. I usually take them both with me and mostly use the SE these days but it's good to be able to switch readily betweeen them and know that I can hunt well with both. Two very different machines but both have their strengths and both are fun.

Explorer II, Explorer SE...either way it's close to the same thing. But you may as well reap the benefits of the several improvements of the SE along with the extended warranty.

but I have both the Explorer and the Explorer 2 and I'm very comfortable with them. I don't need to buy the newest thing on the market for myself and feel the improvements will increase my finds. I dig everything the way it is, even if it is junk or a bad target or a null or whatever so unless the SE can dig the target for me I'm pretty satisfied. IF a great deal comes my way for an SE, you bet I'd get one but don't think that would happen soon. Minelab detectors are far superior to other detectors I think whichever one you have your having success!!

i have to say i feel the same way jack feels about the explorer.
i have the original explorer xs and i know the machine very well. im comfordable with it. its got every option as far as coils and probes . no motion pin point is where its at. i think thats what makes the explorer so great and if its in the ground the explorer will sniff it out.
maybe the next explorer that comes out with an xray video screen on it i may look into that up grade

It's the new latest-greatest, like a new car. But then again, my old one gets me there and back. When I get tired of it, then I'll think of getting something else. My EX-II hasn't done me well at the end of 06, and didn't get a good start for 07. I know it's me and not the machine, (done good to start when I got it), wonder if the SE will spark up some luck, dunno - I guess it's all personal preference.

I would like to buy SE

I have a XLT and Explorer XS both are good in some places...
Years back I was at a park and a dime was on top of the ground.I was using a CZ and it would'nt detect the dime.So I thought maybe iron was under it and moved it but still would'nt detect it,so I turned down the Discrimate and it would show the dime as IRON....To make a long story short we have tried every 2 filter I can think of and they will all show coins as iron.the Sovereign and Explorer also show the coins as iron. Then we tried different 4 filter machines.Every 4 filter will detect coins at 6+".So it depends where you are at and the soil....I have yet to find a coin so deep with the Explorer that the XLT dont detect it,But like I said there are places that the XLT will find a coin that the Explorers will not detect.I am sure other places the Explorer will out preform the XLT.But we have not seen it yet in this part of WV.

Yes Paul, that is getting back to my quest to find the best iron working detector out there. Here's the problem, if the coil is scanning too much iron then it will overload and not signal on a good target, it doesn't matter if it is manmade iron or natural. The real problem is the way motion detectors work, they are all susceptible to iron masking problems. I just wish I could get my hands on a motion detector that has the see thru of my old 100KHZ non-motion detector but I have learned to expect it will not happen.

I don't want to participate in an argument but I am getting a SE next week. I'm not taken by overwhelming changes, but most of the time the improvements are made to the newer unit, not the older one. I will be keeping the XS. I will say that even though the XS still works fine at detecting, it is pretty much worn out. It is well traveled and has served it's time well and been worth what I paid for it.

There are a few things that appeal to me about the new unit. Faster processor. Better pinpointing. Don't lose targets out of the dirt, etc. The main thing I look forward to is the shaft not slipping out of the housing.

I look at buying detectors a little like I look at buying a computer. With a computer, you are really just buying a chunk of time to use them before they become obsolete. You should buy as much technology and capacity as there is available in order to be able to use them as long as possible.

It is not quite like that when buying a detector, but I feel like you should buy as much technology as is available when you buy one. Sure the XS will probably be finding things 4 years from now, but so will the SE and under warranty.

That is just my comfort level. Others may differ.

Yes, all true...and the carbon fiber lower shaft is stronger and lighter, as is the new slimmer coil. And the faster and easier to navigate menus. It's all good.

"Evolutionary...not revolutionary." :)

on the SE are the buttons hard to pus ?

Well, I would say they are exactly as "hard to push" as the buttons on the Explorer II. Which for me, are no problem. But I think I would also have to say that they may be a little easier to push at the same time. Because the buttons on the SE touchpad seem to have a little "texture" to them, where I remember the Explorer II being more smooth to the touch. So you get a little more "grip" on them with the fingertip. Probably some more of that "evolutionary" stuff.

Right on Mike with the Chicks, I getting ready to get a SE
