Snorkeling and fanning for targets

A pingpong bat? Is that anything like a football glove?

If you want to work the site described, you will need to upgrade equipment. That location sounds PERFECT for either Hoohak or Scuba. One advantage you may have, is that you could swim down and hold onto those big rocks to stay in place while fanning. That would certainly be easier than trying it on a flat-sand bottom.

you all are so brave
you must also be great swimmers
my husband and i have been scuba divers over twenty years
and we are both passionate about metal detecting
we have a site nearby where a 1812 fort fell into the waters and the levels go from 6 to 15 feet
He has detected and found cannon balls and buttons and hopes to locate coins in the spring
We have detected at the shore but I cant imagine trying to detect while snorkeling
so... good luck and good/safe finds

I can't afford scuba or hookah systems, and I feel I need to start with the basics of diving. I'm not sure how I'm gonna approach this, so I suppose I'll just go out there (once the water/weather calms down) and see what happens. I have goggles, snorkel, fins and a weight belt. That's all I could afford. I'm contemplating whether I should use all of these things or only some of these things. Looking forward to it!

Well, since you dont have an air supply, DON'T use the weight belt. Now, if you are just wading, in depths you can stand up and breath a weight belt could help. But for snorkeling, no weights.
