The simplex is my new truck tector. A well rounded, easily stowable, waterproof, decent performer.
I decided to swing through a neighborhood that sits on a union artillery emplacement. There’s only a few wooded areas left and I just had a feeling I should swing through. Sure enough, 2 cleared lots I’ve never hit and already bringing in the nasty bright red full dirt. The sun had already set tonight at about 4:45. I had to hit it. Had to.
Parked the old Chevy and extended the simplex. Field mode and a frantic swing speed all through the area. Oddly quiet. Not even cans. Finally a strong hit. Pulled out a cat tag with the collar on it! . Moving on. Swinging madly just knowing there’s a minie ball here. (Typically it’s easy to find a handful of minis in just minutes when they clear) I look for other dog holes. Did I get beat to the punch? Not even a boot track. Then on the way out I got a blasting 66. That’s money. Yeah it’s a zinc signal, but not that kind of money! It’s a bullet. No doubt. Sure enough, from about 4” came up a fired Selma. Done deal. Collapsed the simplex and went to the truck. Neighbors were out watching by this point. Mission accomplished. I have to hit the spot in the morning before the devil dirt is spread over.
