Silverumax finds today

ModernMiner,

best of luck down there, I am not 100% sure If I am going yet. If you have been using a silver for 5 years, then you should be able to do well with it. BECAUSE...it's not the detector....it's the Detector...which finds the goodies.

The button front was about 2-3 inches and 3ringers and musketball were about 4-6 inches. I spent alot of time covering ground trying to find a honeyhole of goodies rather than concentrating at any one spot.

I'm right with you on that one John. I can pretty much tell what's in the hole just by sound now. This Silver uMax has found everything for me over the years, and I've actually upset some buddies I've detected with that were using their high $ machines. :punch: I have accumulated cases of nice old relics over the years, including my best find ever, an "NC" Confederate officers wreath buckle which appraised at $4000. The Silver uMax has paid for itself so many times over I lost count. ;-)

I haved owned a silver...matter of fact it was my first detector..I traded it off and I miss it at times. I have one of those "high dollar detectors" and i enjoy what it can do, but I do love my tesoros as well. I think it's more of the ability of a person to be able to manipulate the feedback from any given detector and translate that to usable information to determine target viability.

People who say that high dollar detectors are not worth it...are fools...and here is why. Detectors are tools, and the better tool we are CAPABLE of using...the more refined our search result has the capacity....to BE. I wont get into a war of words with anyone about stories of compadres finding quarters buried 18" deep under rocks...yadda yadda yadda...or the other side of the coin where the GPX 5000 is finding pennies in a tot lot.

Use whatever tool you are CAPABLE of using....heck even guys who spend the big bucks on a detector dont always understand how to properly use them....and would be better suited to a less complicated tool...one they understand and can properly manipulate.

The most important part to me is having a good time, and in having quality time spent outdoors with friends and family. I am in the market for another tesoro, but I gotta find the right deal.

Peace, Take care.

Well said Little John. I totally agree, and that is exactly what I experienced with my buddies swinging the high $ detectors (Minelab SE, Whites DFX). I was digging CW left and right at a camp and they were finding zilch. Once I dropped a CW bullet on the ground in front of them and they tuned in their machines, they started finding them too. I'm one of those old school guys that just got out of 8-tracks (just kidding) and have had a tough time weaning myself off the Silver uMax due to its simplicity and ability to find just about anything except in wet sand and around electric fences. I felt the Vaquero is a decent step up for me as my next detector. I should have that in a few weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to hit my old spots and find more targets.

As far as:
"The most important part to me is having a good time, and in having quality time spent outdoors with friends and family."
You got that right. This hobby is nothing but fun AND it gets me out of cleaning the house on Saturdays. :clapping:
