Silver Dollar FE-Co numbers can vary--a LOT

I think we are dealing with a software/firmware programming error here. Especially when the target trace is building in one area and the crosshairs appear at another. Since the machine has only been in the public's hands about 30 days I suspect Minelab is building a list of fixes that need to be addressed and by this fall another update will be provided to fix this either by online download or, if that isn't possible for this error, by returning the detector for a firmware update.

Thanks.........HH

No problem...

On the bottle caps I have been testing them with a 4 tone ferrous in ferrous coin then jump back to multicoin. In the ferrous setting they jump to the top of the screen, in the multitone they struggle to stay on the twelve line.. don't know if this a way to check them but it seems to helping Identify other pieces of large tin also... still testing this idea though..

The thing to remember is that the CTX 3030 is not like any other detector on the market. To have the ability to switch between one of four different separation modes is like having four different detectors, literally at your fingertips. So it is no wonder that the FE/CO numbers will vary, depending on the separation settings. (not to mention sensivitity, depth, angle, adjacent targets etc) I'm currently working on making a "coin chart" with various US coins, and with all four separation modes. If any of you have that information available,(it would save me from duplicating your efforts) and I'd be happy to insert the chart as a sticky. Air test results will vary from buried targets. But having a chart that is based on air tests will provide basic information for the field. Thanks. HH Randy

Any particular way that the base settings should be set to coincide with your scans. For instance scan with wide open screen , one tone , etc. I have some coins I can scan in the next couple of days. Both sizes of large cents, '64 Indian, 1/2 reales, 3-cent nickel, etc., if that would help.

If we're just making air scans, the level of discrimination or tones shouldn't matter. But for the sake of consistency, let's use a wide open screen, auto Sensitivity, NO ground balance, Fast OFF and Deep OFF. Then record the numbers with each of the four separation modes. Numbers might bounce a bit. And we'll note that in the chart. But try to keep the stock coil close enough to stabilize the TID. When you get the numbers together, drop me a message and I can include them in a chart for posting. Thanks for "volunteering". :beers: I appreciate it. HH Randy

Will get out in the morning and start getting a list together...

Thanks. I appreciate the help. Send me what you have, when you get it, and I'll work on a composite list for posting. HH Randy

Thanks guys, really appreciate you doing this.-----I think this is a very important thing for all of us to have this info.

if the CTx is anything like the Etrac it will not air test well,,,,, if the "Ground/coin" mode is designed to deal with highly mineralized soil,,,,, and there is none present during an air test, the numbers would not be representative of actual hunting conditions,,,,, in fact any air tests are not representative,,,, not saying they (air test) do not serve a purpose but the results need to be looked at as skewed and not definitive of actual hunting conditions,,,

I am running ferrous/coin high trash, combined audio, and my bottle caps that I have been digging are on the 12-42 and sometimes will ring up to 12-45. Today a dug a silver rosie that rang up 12-45 and bounced to 12-46. It was four inches down.
