Silver coins..

:usaflag:Can someone here give me the rundown on which US coins were made with silver? (not pennies obviously)..And in what year they switched to cheaper methods for each respective coin? Or at the very least throw me a link to where I can educate myself on the subject? Thanks much..

Most US Coins stopped using Silver after 1964. Some Kennedy halves have 40% silver after 1965. You'll know if you found a silver coin.....they won't be tarnish like clad coins. Just as shiny as the day they were minted (well, almost) http://meltvalue.silvermonthly.com/..... will give you dates of silver coins and there melt value if you were to sell them as common silver.

:usaflag:Thanks. It does'nt list the buffalo nickel in determining silver value. And I had my suspicions that it was'nt silver when I cleaned it up, but I did'nt know either way.

Buy a Red Book (Guidebook of US Coins.) It has all the specs for coins you'll ever need. About 8-12 bucks. No treasure hunter should be without one.

:usaflag:Thanks for the tip. I just picked one up on EBay for $13 w/free shipping. It's a soft cover and spiral bound book, which I prefer anyways.

You'll love having it around. Good buy! The coin values aren't all that accurate but it is a good guide if a particular date and mintmark are rare.
