Sierra Super Trac?

offered by Dealers in Jimmy 'Sierra's Distribution area of Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California and Hawaii.

As mentioned, it uses the same coils as the M6, MXT and MXT Pro, out-going DFX, and VX3 and V3i's.

The statements we're heard and read, it is kind of intended as a Coin & Relic Hunting unit, but can be used for Gold Nugget Hunting.

The stock coil is the 6X10 DD, but that's not my pick for the implied hunting tasks.

Let's see .....

1.. It comes in the M6 rod and housing package.
2.. It uses the M6 visual display information.
3.. It uses all the same coils as the M6.
4.. The stock coil is a 6X10 DD instead of the round 950 concentric.
5.. It's a silent-search All Metal accept detector.
6.. The operator can "hear-it-all" and then rely on the audio and visual info to determine if it is ferrous or non-ferrous.

That sounds a lot like how I usually hunt with the six M6's I've owned and the MXT's I've had, and my current MXT Pro.

With the MXT and MXT Pro I can set the Discrimination at the minimum setting and that is a true, 'Zero Disc.' setting and will respond to ALL metals, ferrous and non-ferrous. I can use the Relic mode and with the iron ID setting I can hear ferrous and non-ferrous audio tones. Or, with the MXT Pro, I can also hunt in the Coin & Jewelry mode and use the 7-Tone Tone ID, like the M6, and hear the low, bass-like audio fr iron and higher tons fr non-iron.

Or, I can do the same thing with the M6, setting the Disc. to the minimum Zero-Disc. setting in which it is an All Metal motion Disc. operation. Trigger forward if I want the same 7-Tone ID to help audibly distinguish iron. Other than a search coil change, which I usually do anyway, there really isn't a lot of difference. I prefer the 6

What about the modulated audio it claims to have? I didn't think the M6 had modulated audio or does it? Thanks.

MXT's and the M6 have a modulated audio. It is more apparent at the lower Sensitivity/Gain settings. When these settings are increased to the preset mark and then into the plus range (where I run most of the time at max) you're also increasing the Pre-Amp Gain, aka Signal Balance or Rx Gain. It's also increasing the Target Volume and when operating at that or a higher setting, the audio response will be stronger (you can say more 'saturated' to a greater degree, but it's not the typical 'saturated' type audio with clipping filters), but the overall circuitry design is that these models have a 'modulated' audio. Thus, the smallest and/or deepest targets will have a a weaker response. You'll hear the 'modulation' or dwindling of the audio response as the targets get farther from the coil.

Just guessing but the silent search would preclude faint whispers from deep targets. If you are going to consider prospecting better to go with the MXT I would think. Seems like a pure park machine just from reading about it and watching the videos.

Meting with a dealer this week for a test spin. She is a Mxt expert user and we will do some comparisons. Its possible the MXT may set up to do the same. But I'm wondering about speed as there is not actually supposed to be a disc circuit in the SST. Very interesting concept and the way I hunt with the G2 any way. If its anywhere as fast as the G2 with the extra info of the seven tones it may be a killer jewelry machine as well as the ghost town sweeper !!!!!

Cant Wait!

Steve H.,

You didn't waste any time proclaiming this unit, learn to be Discreet Please:ranting: Call me sometime and I can explain further.

Just FYI, This SST was not TESTED in the UK, The Unit and what we wanted to do with it was the Brain Child of Jimmy Sierra and Myself designing what we wanted over Lunch: I had a Turkey Sandwich at a Deli in Fairfax and Jimmy had similar.

We agreed needed a Specialty Unit for the West Coast Jimmy Sierra Dealers that would handle High mineralization/Black Sand, SO offering the 6x10 DD, a Superior Must Have Search Coil for or Mineralized Beaches so we wouldn't lose the target in such reactive conditions. By the way, when you said it was tested in England.... NOT so, you probably heard that Jimmy Sierra preferred the M-6 over all others he has hunted with for various reasons. I was the First to TEST the actual Proto-Type Sierra Super Track and gave it a Big Thumbs Up... from there, it was sent to Digger Bob Van Camp of Comstock Metal Detectors who immediately took it to a popular worked over Park and located seven rings that were overlooked by many others using various makes and models. The way it is set up makes it awfully hard to walk over a good target.

I then sent my Prototype to Larry at Big Valley Metal Detectors in Citris Heights, CA who was impressed with the performance and passed everything he could throw at it including the Board of Pain which separates the men from the boys so to speak.
Although Designed with Mineralized Beach and Park Hunting in mind, can you prospect with it... absolutely!!!. Will it 'HEAR' as Deep as the MXT Pro on a Gold Nugget?.... Close with that 3 Filter Amplified Channel, but a Threshold Machine will always have a slight edge, but there are also benefits to Silent Search when you MD is properly tuned.

The SST has an INTRO Special at 700.00 less a 100.00 coupon and comes STANDARD with the best Loop for the Beaches and High Mineralization, the 6x10 DD, thus a customer can buy near MXT Performance for 600.00 and have a High Mineral Coil without having to fork over an additional $179.95 +/-. This is a Limited Distribution Detector available directly from your White's Local Dealer in our Select Western States. If you live in other Areas, then I suggest the M-6 or MXT Standard to keep the price reasonable. Your Local Dealer will often negotiate on White's Precise Tuned Accessory Coils, whether it is a 6x10, D2, 5.3, 4x6.

Incidentally, The Strongest Signal Coil on my 12" Nickel Test next to AC Power Lines just several feet from it was the 5.3, so those that are ABLE to acquire the SST, my choice on a second coil would definitely be the 5.3 due to its edge on Discrimination and better resistance to electrical Interference that can tear up a signal.

Learn to be discreet? I did not create the page on the website I linked to. I merely passed on what was ALREADY POSTED on other forums on the Internet.

So no, I am not going to apologize for other people's lack of discretion or inability to keep a lid on things. Save your lecture for the people who put it up on their website.

Sounds like a detector for serious hunters who hunt in all metal to hear iron and use tone ID to tell them whether to dig or not. Probably not good for a beginner.

ANY coil that works on a MXT will work on it, including the SEF. I would like to try one with the 10" DD and see what the depth would be.......Mark

the 10dd actually hits "softer" than the stock coil. I tried one out before I purchased the sst and was surprised.

Steve....

Mixed Mode as in XLT and DFX is a Descrimination Channel working with an All Metal Single Filter Channel. The Sierra Super Trac, is actually operating in its motion mode with the discrimination wide open. Unlike the M-6, Jimmy and I decided to have the Target Tone ID Defaulted to ON and used a two position switch. In the M-6 Design, there is a three position switch so you have to toggle forward to engage the Target Tone ID. When you go to pin point your target by squeezing the toggle, you have to remember to re-engage the Target Tone ID forward or you lose the TTI. This is a minor annoyance for the M-6 users.

Also, as of 7/12/2013, Digger Bob VanCamp of Comstock Detectors in Paradise has been using his SST for prospecting with success. It handles that Red Dirt without any problem where other competing models we have tried overload on that Devilish Dirt.

Steve, it was actually the M-6 that Jimmy was using over in England and liked it so well, that we used it as a foundation for the SST but the value as I see it is that it comes standard with that $179.95 6x10 Wide Scan Search Coil as STANDARD to help deal with the High Mineral of the Western Left Coast (Beaches and Sierras),

In my further tests, the 5.3 Eclipse will increase Signal Response on my 12" Test Nickel by almost 40% over the 6x10 and its concentric design reduces the power lines that our under my sidewalk by about 15% which also reduces any mis-tracking.

No complaints from any of my customers and several of them are using it instead of their MXT Pros because of a reduced weight etc.

Then why in the video (at the 1 minute mark) does Jimmy say: "When using the SST in England.....?"

So what's the difference between "Modulated Audio" (as described above by Monte) and "Voltage Controlled Oscillator audio" (as stated in the MXT manual in the Prospecting Mode section) in how they work?

I have been using the SST since it first came to the market and it has greatly improved my finds even in places I have searched numerous times before. I have found gold rings, gold bracelets, silver rings, silver coins, nickles, dimes, all pennies and quarters. It really seems easier because it is. It works on beaches, highly mineralized areas like the Sierra Nevada, sandy grassy areas, and on hard as rock dry earth. I would recommend this unit to anyone, beginner and seasoned user alike. Listening to the tones and using the display anyone can discern gold, silver, zinc, iron, copper. Junk should be included in the mix because it is always in the mix. I have dug foil at 8". Hey you never know right.

I have this detector. Finds coins well. I had a large 4.13 carat diamond ring white gold. I put it down to test the SST. To my surprised, it didn't see it, it notched it out. I was dissapointed and it made me think it was designed that way purposely, so the really good stuff, gold rings and gold would be left for the other guys that have the better detecors. Fortunately, I have the GMT and TDI, as well as a VSAT.
