Show of Hands - How many use ONLY the Etrac for ALL their land hunting?

This Sunday was the first time every trying metal detecing, so after reading the books that came with the Etrac I went out and found three Wheat pennies and a Buffalo nickel, not bad for my own front yard.

I'm sure glad several other people mentioned keeping detectors for sentimental reasons - my wife thinks I'm nuts. Even though my M6 hasn't even had the battery pack installed since I got the Etrac, I feel like it has "earned its retirement" and can't bear the idea of selling it.

As far as the Omega, what can I say? It's just flat fun to swing! Light as a feather, super on batteries, takes 1/8 and 1/4 headphone plugs, nice large VDI numbers, depth is pretty good.

When I know where I'm going is likely to have silver, the Etrac goes;
when I know where I'm going is likely to have gold, the M6 may come out of retirement;
when I don't know where I'm going but I happen across a interesting looking spot - the Omega is always there in the trunk, ready to go.

Started off with the Etrac metal detecing . The first day I had 3 wheats two Lincolns and a bufflo nickel. Must be doing something right for a newbe.

I am down to just my E-Trac (100 hours of use). I sold my Omega 8000 (also begrudgingly) and V3i in the last few weeks. I just kept the best machine for coins in my iron mineralized ground.

My next move will be to whomever can come out with a nice multi frequency unit for iron mineralized ground THAT IS LIGHT! That said, I love the E-Trac, love the sounds, the 2D screen and simple controls. (Don't love the buttons, screen, backlight, weight, lack of shortcuts - but that said, I kept this machine over two other great machines, so that tells you stg.)

I mainly use etrac, but kept the dfx because I used it for ten years and really know how to use it, it makes a good backup. I also use it with the bigfoot coil for planted hunts, works great. The at pro is for water and the kids, beltone is great for beginners.

Albert,
Why don't ou like the Back Light?

First, I should say I have excellent vision.

It is a very relative thing Eva. Turn on the backlight in the day and you can't tell it's on, even when it is overcast. A much greater benefit can be found (in daylight) by using contrast.

Having used the V3i, now that is a backlight. Has a range from 1 - 100 and 1 makes a HUGE difference for daylight hunting. (Perhaps the V3i's advantage was also more noticeable because it's a color screen which naturally has more contrast compared to an LCD screen - but without the backlight I found the V3i's color screen not very usable in the day time as well.) The angle of the E-Tracs screen probably could be a bit different to assist in daylight viewing.

The ONLY time the backlight on the E-Trac is usable for me is when the sun is going down or if I were to hunt in the dark.

E-Trac... I've been known to use other machines, I have owned several,Green ones, Black ones and Yellow ones, I still own an AT Pro for in the water; every step and every swing I was thinking to myself" I could be swinging my E-Trac why am I doing all this hunting with an inferior machine" use the best that you can and for me its E-Trac only...:minelab:
