Some things you just cannot fix $%^*#@. Next time you see him, tell him to bring some common sense with him when he decides to detect.
but they just don't care.., i have also seen areas totally torn to shreds by large group hunts in my area, once again not good...I saw a guy digging holes in a well manicured high school field a NO NO NO And it was fenced in at that. He got in between the gates. I just called out to him and said you are are not supposed to be inside those gates, his reply was a FINGER.
